We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chrys Phillips a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Chrys , appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

One heat wave summer evening in Australia, I couldn’t sleep as the a/c was broken and I started to dream of a place I’d rather be, and that was a coastal town with cool sea breezes and the hidden secret that magic actually existed. Thus, The Magic Wars Saga had begun. Once published I decided to sell everything I owned including my car to embark on meeting my books’ fans which were many in America. everyone told me I was crazy, that there’s no security, no guarantees and what would I come back too as I would fail?

I always dreamed of going to America and my book was very popular. I don’t want to miss a chance of getting my series to where it deserve. I sold everything and had many hurdles but the saga is globally popular for each of the books and I’m in preproduction to create a movie adaption.

The saying is … no risk no glory, and it’s true as you cannot achieve success by expecting it to land in your lap, if you don’t put any fears aside and just have faith.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I began writing seriously and for a profession when I started in theatre. Several of my plays had full scale productions and I kept writing many books while directing theatre productions. It wasn’t an easy path, due to that ‘art’ is subjective therefore an editor, or an agent has their own tastes. However, after writing a few books and manuscripts Magic Wars Saga was the one that everyone gravitated to.
I knew then, that people were falling in love with my characters as much as I was and I wanted to showcase my passion for their individual stories and produce the saga. Lakeview is the town where the book is set and, it is a hidden fantasy world that lives amongst our very own reality. in the humble Upon the third moons’ eclipse, it becomes the breeding ground to
immortals, hybrids and magic, set in motion by one of the most powerful immortals of them all. Lakeview is now ground zero to the magic wars and it is an action-filled, heart wrenching fight of good vs evil in a showdown to save mankind and ultimately find their very own humanity. In the saga each character has their own voice and relatable story, while alliances shall be made. There is Heroes being born. While Love blooms, some unrequited and some forbidden. And a new era of a legion steps forward!

What I love about my series is meeting the book fans, ones who have followed it from inception and the new fans and book lovers, I chat to them on Instagram and book signing and conventions and they make it magical, rewarding and inspiring to me. That’s why in some of the books dedications I dedicate it to the fans.
We’re in production for an origin story move adaption and fans shall be able to dive into the series on screen too.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

First and foremost it is the fans, the book lovers and the Magic Wars Saga family who adore some of the characters and love to hate some of them too, wether it’s a villain, hero, immortal or mortal their enthusiasm and pathos to the story and it’s characters is the utmost humbling and invaluable reward. I appreciate everyone and have a blast chatting to them via social media or conventions and book signings.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?

For the Magic Wars Saga fans I love to chat to them on Instagram daily and some of them I’ve known for years. The website is getting a few cool add-ons, while we’re in preproduction for the movie adaption and a magical cool world of a mailing list that has the town of Lakeview’s very own diary page entries of some of the characters for behind the scenes secrets.

This enables the book fans to indulge into more of the story and bring it into their daily routine while finding out what the beloved characters are up to and where the following events shall take place. I’m thrilled about this coming soon to liaise more with book fans and the launch shall be announced on my personal Instagram.
