Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christy Robertson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At Sing Hat Company, we make small batch and custom beaver felt hats. Everything is made with the highest quality beaver felt in the industry. We allow hats to dry on the block at least 24 hour which allows for the felt to shrink and cure to the block. This ensures a dry crown for pouncing.
We are in the business of art, not in fast, wholesale type production.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Christy sing robertson, owner, founder, hatter at sing hat company in Jackson, Wyoming. I began making hats in 2016 and opened up a small shop in 2018. My focus has always been making heirloom quality well crafted custom hats. We have since added a huge palm leaf and straw ready to wear line for spring and summer wear.
I got into the industry after feeling a calling from God. As a single mom of two, I worked my then full time job and worked as a hatmaker on the side for a bit before going in full time.
We are a fully bespoke hat company. We tailor the hat to the customers head shape and size along with all the details of the hat shape, color and accoutrement.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I got just two pieces of advice from my marketing team when I began my IG account: 1. Use only great photographs.
2. Begin following the accounts of the folks you want to purchase your hats.
My following has grown very slowly and authentically. I only post a photo if I believe it is beautiful.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clientele for me has been word of mouth. We live in a small community, so clients bringing their own visiting friends and family members has been huge.
