We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christy Primmer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christy below.
Christy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to empower women to get back into the driver’s seat of their own lives so they can make decisions from a place of confidence and desire, not fear and lack. Through my own personal experience, extensive post-secondary education, and of course, career history as a trauma counsellor; I know what it is like to feel out of control over your own life, career and relationships. I also know what it feels like to believe in yourself, have true confidence in who you are and what you are capable of, and I want every woman to feel sure of herself.
Through my books, television show, brand partnerships, podcast interviews, speaking, and social media I am privileged to encourage and empower women across the globe.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have a very interesting résumé. My first real job (besides babysitting, collecting dog tag taxes and cutting millet) was in the hospitality industry. At eighteen, I hopped on an airplane (had never flown before!) and moved to western Canada in Jasper, Alberta. I’d experienced the loss of a very important person in my life and wanted to get out of dodge, so to speak. I worked at The Jasper Park Lodge as a housekeeper. I was quickly promoted to supervisor and did that for a couple of years before moving back to Ontario. I went to College and earned two diplomas, then University to earn my Degree. I began my career in social services and worked for both community living agencies and longterm care facilities. I held varied positions focusing on human behaviour, development, mental health and in health care. After several years of working for others, I started my company Primetime Consulting Services Inc. in 2011.
I ran a very successful private practice which focused primarily on trauma counselling support for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as PTSD and addiction. I wrote my first book Primetime Success in 2016, after co-authoring a book in 2015. After great success in building my business, I incorporated business coaching services for women who wanted to create their dream life and have time freedom. I developed programs and courses that taught women how to start a business and also, scale it. I created masterminds, Lady Boss luncheons, and group coaching programs that empowered women to elevate their success in all areas of life with an emphasis on mental wellness, confidence, and money mindset.
I am passionate about helping women learn how to love themselves, build confidence in themselves, and ultimately, live a good life. I was naturally drawn to supporting moms – not that every client is a mother but as one myself, I understand the mom guilt we can face when we pursue our dreams alongside raising a family. It is imperative that moms learn how to prioritize themselves because the healthier we are the healthier our children are. I am a self-proclaimed self-care junkie! Always evolving and sharing my knowledge with others. Of course, I have invested a lot of money, time and energy into my success! I have worked with numerous coaches and mentors, participated in group coaching and masterminds, and have read more books than most! It’s a lifetime commitment to elevate in mind, body, spirit for me – not a one and done.
I wrote Confessions of a Self-Care Junkie: A Woman’s Journey to Loving Herself and Living Free to empower women to let go of their past, release emotional weight, and explore the endless possibilities to create the life they had only ever dreamed of. It is literally a tool kit for women who know they are meant for so much more ad have the courage to go after it! My poetic compilation EXPOSED: Diary of a Self-Care Junkie is another book I wrote to inspire women to stop identifying with their past, let go of outdated beliefs, change their self-talk and learn how to implement boundaries in all areas of their lives. Writing is not something I do; it is a part of who I am.
The business coaching services I offer align with my mission and allow me to witness incredible change and success in the lives of women around the world. I have gotten really good at knowing time zones. When I developed and pitched my TV show “Women Who Lead” I had no idea of the impact it would have. Afte Five successful seasons of incredible unscripted conversations with epic women doing great work and shining light on possibilities that exist when you believe in yourself – I am proud of myself of persisting in pursuit of my dreams. I am my own best testimonial – everything I say I can help other women do, I have done first for myself. Integrity matters to me!
I have been through a lot of things and have had to overcome a lot of pain, alone. I had a moment in my life when I was 23, single mother, going through a brutal divorce and custody battle waking up in a women’s shelter, feeling desperate, terrified, isolated, and helpless. In that moment I got on my hands and knees and begged God to deliver a miracle, and promised that if He would get my son and I out of the situation we were in I would use my voice to empower women everywhere to live better.
Well, here I am fulfilling my promise and I am grateful to have the privilege to help others and pour into others through my modeling and media career, books, speaking, and social media. I have retired from Health Canada and The College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers yet remain an active advocate for mental health and volunteer with some incredible organizations.
I am most proud of the life I have created. I have an incredible marriage, a thriving family (my son is 24 and doing better than ever!) I am blessed to use my voice to speak life into others, I get to share my wisdom to support others in making better decisions for their lives, and I get to hold space for women who want to live better. I took bold courageous action in pursuit of my childhood dreams and have walked runways at NYFW, Miami Swim Week, Toronto Fashion Show, and more. My career is soaring and I continue to partner with incredible brands making a positive impact in this world. Remember, confidence is a vibe, not a size! You are worthy of having everything your heart desires and so much more!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Absolutely, there are many experiences and stories to share. I believe resilience is a requirement of being successful in every area of life, not limited to business!
Let’s stroll back to the year of 2020! I had several speaking events booked and I was beyond excited to be traveling and delivering keynotes at numerous conferences and events because many of them had been booked in the previous year. It was going to be my most epic year of travel and then as we all remember, around the middle of March the world shut down (out of country travel was a no!) and at that moment I recall thinking about my speaking calendar with great confusion and sadness.
You see, all of the event organizers had already paid me a deposit as per the speaking contracts and suddenly, there were no live speaking events taking place. Everything was cancelled with no idea of when it would be rescheduled. I remember feeling such angst and uncertainty and deep breaths only helped so much. Moving along, I realized that I could deliver my keynotes and talks via zoom or other virtual platforms which would allow me to fulfill my end of the agreement, have an impact at a time when the world really needed positivity, and make money. Through brainstorming and conversations with others it was clear that while it was not ideal, it was a solution. A lot of businesses were negatively impacted, and mine was no different. Remember, where there is a will, there is a way.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I want to answer this question with first stating a disclaimer: I do not recommend this strategy to anyone.
I may sound dramatic here but what I did was not the best decision I have ever made.
I funded my business by using my investments! Yup! True story! I pulled out my investments and registered my business. I went all in on having a website created, ordered all the business cards and brochures you could order, and had all overhead costs and office rental paid for by draining my bank account. I had so much belief in myself and my abilities that I went all in. Literally! Doing so really upped the game for me because failing was not an option. I had to figure it out and I did.
Now, hindsight is 20/20 they say but let me tell you – it was a very challenging way to start a business. I can smile when I tell that story now, however, it was definitely not the ideal place to start. Fortunately, I built my business quickly through word of mouth referrals and proceeded to generate an income but the stress it caused and the extra pressure it put on both my husband and I was not good. Alas, I did learn a lot and have been able to support my clients to create and scale their businesses in varied ways as a result of my own experiences.
Side note: Shout out to all of you who have been rooting for me, sending referrals my way, and to all of you who have purchased my books and hired me to speak. I truly value you!
