We were lucky to catch up with Christy McCaffrey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I have worked on recently is a video project for The Timothy School, which is the oldest non-profit approved private school in Pennsylvania devoted exclusively to teaching students with autism. When I first took a tour of the school I was overwhelmed by what an amazing place it is. It is a school full of staff who care deeply about seeing each child reach their greatest individual potential, and children who are full of joy and clearly feel supported and loved in their school environment. I learned that the school was in need of a video to help connect potential donors and future families with the heart of why The Timothy School is such a special place. My team and I spent two days on campus filming and I honestly did not want to leave when production ended. Now seeing the final product of the video complete I feel so proud and honored to be able to do the work that we do at Be The Good Media. It feels like we are truly making a difference and addressing the needs of our nonprofit clients who are out there making the world a kinder, more inclusive and positive place.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I began my journey as a producer in 2011 after founding my nonprofit Project Scleroderma. Our organization’s primary goal is to raise awareness of a rare disease that I lost my mom to (in 2009), called scleroderma, and we do so by way of documentary films.
It was around 2019 that I started to feel a pull to connect with others who were working in the impact driven space and a desire to help shed light on other important causes. I decided to launch a podcast called Be The Good. On the show, I would interview a diverse range of guests, each who were working in their own unique way to make a difference, and it turned out to be an amazing experience. I would leave each conversation buzzing with purpose and excitement and I couldn’t shake the thought that there might be more for me to do in this space. I started to think of how I could merge my skills as a producer with my desire to amplify more good which then led me to launch Be The Good Media.
Be The Good Media is a creative content production agency serving for-purpose organizations, brands and people who are working to create a lasting impact for the good. We offer video production and filmmaking services that help connect an audience with the passion and purpose behind an organization’s mission.
As for the podcast, which started as a DIY passion project in my basement, we are now filming and recording on set in a professional podcast studio. Our podcast guest package offers our clients a great opportunity to spread their message and we also have some additional marketing takeaways. While in studio, each guest has the chance to create several social media clips, filmed in studio, professionally edited and including the organization’s logo! Guests on the show have shared with us that the experience is not only a really fun time but the additional takeaways have truly helped to ramp up their marketing efforts as well.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
I’d say that the common thread in the work I have done thus far, and which I hope to continue going forward, is the thread of compassion and impact. As a creative person I have always been drawn towards projects or ideas that help me to express what I ultimately want to see more of in the world. And at the end of the day, I think that will always be more goodness. Goodness is not something that only a few people have or are capable of, and it’s not just a title you give to the people who have similar views and values as you. I believe it is something that is baked into each and every person on this planet. It’s there in all of us, but it requires us to take action on it in order for us to make a positive impact with our lives. Through my work I have come to see that we are all much more similar than we are different. We all want to feel good, we want to feel whole and loved – supported and seen – and the only way that is accomplished is through a sense of unity, community and higher levels of compassion. This is the goal that drives my creative journey the most, the goal to keep inspiring people to tap into that goodness and spread it out into the world.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I have found the most effective strategy for building my clientele has come by way of networking. I know we all understand the concept and importance of networking but I don’t think I truly understood it’s impact on my business until I decided to really commit myself to it when I launched Be The Good Media. Since starting Be The Good in Jan 2023 I have been networking heavily on LinkedIn and at in person networking events. I have taken every opportunity I can find to be in conversation with people who could potentially be clients of mine or who could potentially connect me to someone I would like to work with. That commitment to networking has really paid off for me so far.
