We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christy Louis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Anybody who knows me well, will tell you that I absolutely love roses. The reason why I love them is a bit of a story. The reason why I love this particular flower is related to their universal symbolism. Throughout the world, roses are a symbol of love, courage, and beauty. Growing up, I had a lack of confidence and struggled with my self-esteem. I often found myself wishing I possessed the beauty of a rose, and that one day I would “bloom”. For me, a rose represents more than just a beautiful flower. Roses represent my story of growth. So when it was time to come up with a name for my company, I wanted it to motivate me, as well as resonate with who I am at the core. I couldn’t think of a better way to not only continue my growth journey, but to remind myself of my own progression. Also, having roses associated with my business meant I would be looking and working with roses all the time. What a dream come true! Lastly I added the accent on the ‘e’ in “Rosé” to add a little bit of pizzazz, and to make it classy.
Christy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Christy and I am from South Florida. I moved to Dallas after graduating from college for a job opportunity. I graduated from the University of Florida, “Goo Gators, chomp chomp!” I grew up in a single-parent low-income household. My family consists of my mom and my younger twin siblings. My motivation for success derives from my desire to provide for my family.
In terms of goals and aspirations. I have a love for music and hope to one day start my career as an artist. For now, I am focused on building my social media presence and my business. I am just working on making my dream life a reality.
I have always been a nail enthusiast. Once I processed the concept that money could buy me nail-related things it was a wrap. I would save my lunch money and buy polish from the dollar store since elementary school. When I realized I could buy nail art tools off amazon that’s when my passion for nail art was ignited. I was known for rocking a new nail design every week in middle school. I learned how to do different designs through YouTube. Nail art is an outlet of expression for me and I love designing nails. Designing nails to match the seasons, holidays and keeping up with trends is exciting to me. One day it just clicked. Why not make money off of something I’m passionate about?
I help enhance the beauty of customers and add a bit of glam to their everyday lives. By providing glam style, salon quality press on nails at an affordable price. The designs I create range from trendy, classy, and of course truly glamorous. Press-ons are heaven-sent. Rosé nails are very beginner friendly, easy to apply and remove. Non-damaging to the natural nail. Quick to apply, which saves you time so you can go off and live the glam life you deserve. The versatility of press-ons is my favorite benefit. You can switch up styles in minutes without breaking the bank.
What I believe sets me apart is my passion and my story. All of my work is hand-painted and made with love and care. I am self-taught and have a genuine admiration for my craft. I love making people happy and bomb nails make people smile and feel good. My supporters are not just buying a product from my business, you all are supporting my dreams.
The reason why I want to share my life and journey with others is that I want to encourage people who come from similar backgrounds as myself to create success stories of their own. Your circumstances do not determine your future. I am the daughter of a Haitian immigrant from south Florida from a lower socioeconomic background. The odds of me failing were higher than the odds of me being successful. So I decided to flip the narrative. I am proud to say everything worked out. I now have the life I once prayed for. The best part is this is only just the beginning.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After graduating college I moved to Texas and started my first ever corporate job. That was a chapter of my life full of change. I moved to Texas with a desire to pursue my dreams and work on my passions. Six months in I was depressed, isolated, and not doing so well financially. I hadn’t accomplished any of the goals I had set for myself. I found myself in a limbo of misalignment to my purpose. I realized my job played a huge role in why I was feeling so drained. My job was exhausting, mentally, physically, and emotionally. It was time to make a change and stop settling for a job that was barely providing for me financially. So I took a huge leap of faith and quit my job. I finally decided to choose myself and embrace uncertainty. At the time I didn’t have a plan or even knew what was next. I didn’t even have a job lined up. I am someone who values stability and having a plan in place at all times. Quitting my job without having a solid plan was completely out of character for me but I had no other option. I realized that I needed to do more of the things that make me happy. I have always loved nail art and dreamt about being able to make a career out of my passions. So I decided there was no better time than now to start my own press-on-nail business.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I use Wix as the eCommerce platform to sell my glamorous press ons and I absolutely love it. All the tools you need to run a successful and efficient business are included. This platform is very easy to use and to navigate. Starting your own business is overwhelming but honestly, my website was one thing I was never worried about. The best feature of Wix is how easy it is to get started. You can design a website, upload pictures of your product, and begin selling in days. You can manage your inventory, print shipping labels, and link your business email to directly receive messages from the website. Automating processes is also a breeze. There are so many components to running a business so automating little things saves you time. Wix is a one-stop shop. There are also tools to help with marketing campaigns, social media shops, and sales funnels. If you invest time and put in the effort to work on your website with Wix the end product will be amazing. One of the cons is the cost. However, you need to spend money to make money. There is a monthly subscription fee and there are different subscription levels. The level with the desirable features is more pricey. There are also some limitations to the different subscription levels. For example with the level I have, you are only allowed 3 active automation. I have already used all three and would like to implement more. Overall the pros of Wix outweigh the cons. I have had a very positive experience using Wix and I would recommend it to all business owners.
