We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Whitt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Christopher , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Whitt Collision Repair has grown from a Hobby that started when I was very young into a successfully growing business and As of October 5th 2023 we where happy to to announce that we have acquired “Flex Space” to handle the influx of new customers as well as repeat business.

…is a very important statement that has turned into our mission. Personally, I know what it feels like to depend solely on your vehicle to get you from A to B. The stress and anxieties you carry when you need to get to work, that doctor appointment or the kids to school and you don’t have someone you can depend on. I know what it feels like to be stranded on the highway in the freezing cold, rain and hot temperatures, while hundreds of cars pass you by, towing companies with unforgiving rates hang up on you and your on your last just trying to get home. I have been there!!

I don’t have to know you or the story of where you are in life, to care, I care because I understand.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I go by a few names lol Chris-Shaun on Facebook which is what my close family call me. Shaun is what’s on my uniform and is my middle name, or just plain ole Chris, I respond to it all but you’ll still get the same person no matter what.

I got started with cars as soon as I got my first Hotwheels toy. I was probably around 5 years old and got my collection up real quick. I had this tan jacket with pockets all over it and I wanted to take my cars everywhere just to show, so I’d fill those pockets up and it would drive my grandma nuts. I guess the sound of me walking made a noise her ears didn’t agree with…she (grandma Lois Kelley) later wrote a poem about me with a photo attached of me wearing that jacket. From there Revel and Monogram plastic model cars helped me understand the design and location of parts and from there once I got the real thing, I learned the function and purpose of various parts but it was a hobby and I was so good at it I started a business during Covid.

There have been lots of struggles both professionally and personally during my journey and having a good relationship with God through faith and prayer has saw me through some really really tough times along with word of encouragement from Latoya Lawrence. Financial discipline and developing my patience has been the two biggest keys to my success as a business owner. As well as not being overly ambitious or just too aggressive with large purchases have also contributed to a sometimes slow but steady growth. Because of that we now provide:

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

My stream of revenue started with social media. Being able to reach associates from college, high school and even co-workers helped get things going. There are mechanic groups and forums where people post there need for repairs and I got lots of new business that way as well.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

Doing good business will build your reputation that will carry by word of mouth and dictate the consistency of your business flow. Keep in mind every conversation you have is a marketing opportunity for continued business and is a measuring stick for your level of success and growth of your company. Getting too comfortable and becoming complacent can sink it just as quickly.
