We recently connected with Christopher Thompson and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always been a very observant person. Being the youngest of 5 I grew up imitating my Parents and siblings, picking and choosing what I wanted for my own style. I applied the same formula for my music. The Funk I get from my father’s “Tower of Power” records. The Soul I get from my mother’s early weekends playing anything from Aretha to Kirk Franklin. The Gritty “Wu Tang” and East Coast sound from my Oldest Brothers “Hand-me-downs” and the smoothess from my Sisters love for Lauren Hill and Neo Soul. I Began writing songs of my own at 9 years old and learned from Tupac that I needed to write at least 1 song everyday. I started filling up notebooks until I was “Nice” enough to record with my older cousin, who already had a local Group and studio. That was my first experience with a producer and I learned how to use recording equipment and software. I spent the next few years sharpening my skills vocally, but one thing I should have payed more attention to was the Visual aspect. This was at a time when Youtube was starting to erupt and I had absolutely no videos or online presence other than a Myspace Page. If I knew what I know now, I would have shot and released a new Music Video every week!
After a few Live shows and Local Mixtapes my Buzz was growing and I started working with other artists and producers locally and Nationally. That’s when I came to find out that not All business is good business. Ive had Money taken, Songs Stolen, Beats bought and resold to other artists, and the list goes on..
Now I do everything myself. I run my own Label/Studio and I write and produce 100% of my music including Visuals. I am totally convinced that if I wasn’t that “copy cat” kid brother who was always watching, I would still be sitting around waiting for someone to notice me.

Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Street Brokers Entertainment under what then was an Umbrella company called “B.O.R.N.S Production Company” in 2010 but Later became independent in 2020. I wanted to create a one-stop shop for the Artists. A place where you can record your song over an Original track, getting it mixed and Mastered and a Visual shot upon release to all major platforms. I also make it a point to Mentor the artists I work with and make sure they are informed on what I know from the Business side of the music industry. I think that’s what makes me the most proud. Knowing that I might have given the advice or help to change someone’s life forever.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect as an artist for me would have to be Originality. Being able to create something that has never been created in a way only you can do it. I get so turned off when I hear a good song, then the next artist tries to make one just like it. It’s so disappointing to me.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My #1 Goal in this journey is simply to make timeless music that can be enjoyed by any and every person on earth, no matter the Genre.
