We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christopher Tellison . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christopher below.
Christopher, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with 1Nation on the back porch with my pops and we were thing about the next generation and mine as well but we were thinking about how people are coming together and turnt to accept other cultures. The next generation will be so connected to each other through technology and social media because now they can have friends in other countries in places they have never been but only seen. Which reminded me of the Pangea and how all the continents were one so people were together at one point and are going to be together again. I have always been into fashion and I have done a clothing brand before but this time I feel like it’s God’s will for me build my brand around unity and innovation because together if we come together and apply those things the world will change for the better. I want to be the person to help push that narrative to the world and make sure my brand message is clear. I saw an opportunity to create a brand around positivity and be creative with it but also like I said I’ve been in to fashion since I was young so I think I was bound to make another clothing brand eventually and I figure now is the best time to start building this the brand. I am excited to see where this takes me and how far the brand can actually go from clothes to shoes to lifestyle items maybe more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am from houston I moved around a lot through out the city so I’ve seen and been around different people, cultures, and lifestyles so I feel like I have the ability to adapt to different environments which I feel plays a big roll in who I am. I got into fashion when right before middle school I worked in the barbershop and I seen the head barber with new shoes everyday and my older cousin had a whole room just for shoes at one point but not just Jordan’s he had designer shoes too before I even knew what they were. So my influence from fashion came from my environment and the culture and music I would listen to do this is not something I do for money it more so something I do just to express creativity and hopefully someone relates to the creativity that I’m putting out. I think what makes me different is that I’m trying to change the world with the brand and have a positive impact on the communities that need it and even on the ones who may not necessarily need it at the moment but the impact will be positive regardless.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
Yes I have, with the last clothing brand I had we sold our internet/Social media rights to another company with the same name pretty much. I learned that it was important for us that we had our LLC, trademarks, and business lawyer so that when it came time to do business with other businesses we were not just pressured or pushed to give it away or sell for little to nothing and I appreciate that lesson for teaching what I need to do with 1Nation.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that not every business venture you gone on will be as successful as your others. I am learning with 1Nation that starting a clothing brand is much harder by yourself and even harder when you don’t have capital set aside for all your expenses, but because my first brand had so much success so fast I just assumed 1Nation would to but not realizing I’m in a completely different market and I have to put my time and work in.
