We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christopher Ryan . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christopher below.
Christopher, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Mayhem Leather Company started for me when I wanted a designer wallet I couldn’t afford. My wife actually said i should try to make my own. So I took a free class at Tandy leather and my love for working with leather started to grow. I started out making small leather goods in my spare time like wallets and bracelets. Eventually I attempted to make a gun holster. I worked on learning these skills for nearly four years or more researching any info I could find, along with hours of practice. Once I felt confident that I was making a quality gun holster I started Mayhem Leather Company.
Christopher, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I initially made my first gun holster for myself. After showing it off a little, friends started asking for me to make them one. Demand started to grow and I dedicated more and more of my time to making a quality holster. When customers see my products they see the quality and time I put in to each one. Going over the small details and adding the extra effort to everything I make. That is one of the things that makes me most proud about what I offer. I started working with different exotic leathers such as alligator, stingray, ostrich, elephant. Today I offer a full line of exotic leather holsters as well as belts, wallets, portfolios, and various other products. Giving customers a truly custom product that they can be proud of.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I was nearly three years in to running Mayhem Leather when covid hit. Up until this point a lot of my business involved traveling to shows to put my holsters and leather products on display trying to build my company. When covid hit everything shut down. Travel stopped, trade shows all stopped. Materials and supplies became harder to find. It was a time that could have easily shut down my small business. I took the time to keep making holsters and other products, Thankfully orders kept coming in keeping me busy throughout.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Mayhem Leather couldn’t be possible without tremendous support from my family. My father helps me with daily operations. Bookkeeping, orders, and handling social media accounts. Along with my wife they are both always there for me to discuss new ideas and different directions for my business.
