We recently connected with Christopher Murphy and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of Transcend Fitness started in 2019. I was working as an Electrician Supervisor or Foreman. Running projects and managing multiple crews. Tragedy struck in my personal life. My fiancé lost both her parents and a best friend within two years. I had a brief scare with health and my Father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The icing on the cake was Covid-19 in 2020. The world stopped. This made me stop and introspectively question how I am “existing“, not living. I want to help people. I want to leave this world a better place than I found it. How though? After working for multiple social service companies I realized it was too difficult not becoming attached to the participants. A new friend I confided in explained, “you can help people in so many ways. It’s a subjective thing, help.” That’s when it hit me. I can do what I love doing while teaching and helping others live healthier. I can do it in a manner where I stand out by NOT looping a client into some nonsense 52 week, 5 stretch sheet that big PT corporations do. I could provide lifetime knowledge in less time. This candor has helped build my businesses foundation.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A lot of this I feel I answered previously, so perhaps my mission statement serves best as an introduction; “Transcend Fitness pursues optimal performance for their clients through science based research and training. Chris is certified as: a trainer , holistic nutrition coach, muscle recovery specialist, and local creatine supplier. Driven by discipline, Transcend fitness guarantees goal accomplishments and a better quality of life..”
I believe in passion over profit. Yes, finances are a real necessity and need to be sufficient, but it should never lead in front of passion. I want to leave this world a better place than I found it. I intend to do that by educating and teaching people how to effectively and safely eat, train, and recover..
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Meeting people in person and word of mouth. Attention spans are all of 7 seconds on average today. That means all of your marketing content, on average, either needs to hook a client or explain a benefit in 7 seconds. Meeting someone allows them to get to know you. Building relationships. Plant your seed, tend your gardens, and with good intentions it will flourish.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honesty and transparency. There’s so much smoke and mirrors out there today. Influencers painting unrealistic expectations that will eventually have a negative impact on a person following them wondering why their advice isn’t working. In a world full of illusions, be candor. Be transparent.
