We recently connected with Christopher Molina and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Being a business owner is great! The main objective is to go from a self employed business owner to a business owner that can step away and still have your business make money. I think that is the ultimate dream and goal for people who go into business for themselves. We ultimately are driven by the freedoms that come with owning your business. These freedoms give you the ability to come and go as you please and make money everyday.
I have great respect for people who work a regular job. They are the backbone of our nation. However, I new from a very early age that I wanted more in life. From the earliest years in school, the first thing they teach you is how to stand in line. They teach you to become employable to make a living. I on the other hand never wanted to just live but I wanted to live life living in a way that would build generational wealth and freedom for my entire family. Sometimes you have to step out of that line and follow your heart.
I made that final decision to follow my heart when my employer told me I could not take time off of work to go be with my family when my Grandfather was ill. I thought back on all the other times I had to ask for permission to go see my son play a game or go watch my daughter accept an award. Too many times I had to ask for permission. This time though was my last and I have not looked back since. I left a federal job and was scared but I had too much confidence in my abilities to look back. Being a business owner is not for the weak at heart. Everyday you have to put in the work to reach your goals.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I believe degrees and accolades are wonderful. I’m very proud of my undergraduate and masters level education. However, sometimes I believe these things are put on a pedestal and people think they define them. Even though, I’m very proud of my accomplishments, I was not happy using them in the work place. I wanted to do something in life that make my life fulfilling. I loved my creative side but how could I use it to make a living. These thoughts is what created and manifested Unwavered Custom Apparel and Sportswear. Having an unwavering attitude towards life is important and and I wanted to share it with the world.
Helping clients, teams, organization have there ideas come to life through my designs is a wonderful feeling. Being able to take some of the things I learned in school to laser focus it to my business is nice to see. It took thinking outside the box to fully see it come to life. We pride ourselves on giving each client the best work and attention to there needs. Anytime someone takes the time to trust us, we make sure to give there our best effort each time!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The best way to grow your clientele is to think of each job as your first. Everyone remembers there first clients and how hard you work to but your best self forward to your clients. You want to make sure everything looks great because you want them to come back and refer others to you. I think sometime some people forget about this. However, in our line of work, you have to always do your best for all clients. You just never know who they may introduce you to in the future or how that business relationship can grow.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Self development is very important. You should always try to learn more in your industry. You should also want to learn more about people and business. One book that has helped me focus is call, “177 Mental Toughness Secrets of the World Class.” by Steve Siebold. Its a great book to read because it gives you habits and philosophies of some of the wealthiest minds.
I also have strong faith and understand sometimes I may not have all the answers. I have no problem asking for help or praying about it. “The Power of a Praying Husband.” by Stormie Omartian has been a key to my ability to do this daily.
