We were lucky to catch up with Christopher Mitchell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
Social media social media social media, managing social media is tough due to everything that goes into it. The video editing, staying up to date on trends, etc. especially while working a full time job no less. For me it use to be more challenging I had issues editing, would get camera shy as far as voice overs etc. but now I have a constant routine that helps me stay active as far as posting regular content. The big thing is consistency, especially with the industry I’m in. With that being said I have set days for new recipes, set day for video editing, and finally a set day for posting and delivering new content. As I became more consistent with my efforts my page continued to flourish, more engagement, new clients, etc

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Easily I’m Christopher Mitchell owner of Kitchen Candy LLC, I’ve owned the company since 2018 this being my second business and most fruitful. Kitchen Candy is a catering meal prepping and event planning company. As well as providing exceptional service to the best degree we can we strive to make all of our clients feel like family. Trusting someone no less a stranger to plan an event, provide food, laughs etc. is no small feat so we like to get to know our clients, understand the importance behind the event if need. I believe that’s what sets us apart, most companies and people are there for a check, rush the process no love or care behind the product just in and out. But we strive to do the complete opposite which I believe is why we have constant returning clients going on 7 years now

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Kitchen Candy definitely did start as a side hustle. I was working at Outback Steakhouse in this period of time working back of house getting paid money to kind of just get by day to day and wanted more, when it came to cooking family, friends etc all knew one thing about me I know how to throw down on some food. So it started small pop up events. Custom plates for friends etc. I then changed jobs and started working at bjs brewery better pay but still not enough to reach my goals. Then Covid happened. Everyone was let go from their job. And I needed to find a way to continue making money, bills were still do like rent, car notes etc. I went to sunbiz.com registered my business did my annual filing and started my company right on up. It was hard to start a business let alone start it while the whole world was on lock down. Granted starting in that period in time was also beneficial, grocery stores, majority of restaurants etc were closed so now here I am able to provide what you couldn’t get at your general convenience.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding was an easy process as crazy as it sounds I have a pretty good savings habit. So I took what I made off my bi weekly check and put x amount aside every time I got paid. I used initial capital of about 1500 to start up my company, manage my clothing line, and buy new equipment. As time went on I continued to move money from my day to day job into my business account and fixed up my credit as well. Finally I applied for my business loan and the rest was history
