We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christopher Kendall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christopher below.
Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
So at my business (Kendall Performance Physical Therapy PLLC), we are significantly different than traditional physical therapy in the sense that usually with other PT clinics they ask you to come in 3 times a week where you’d spend 15-20 minutes with the physical therapist and then get passed off to an aide or assistant. Also most clinics have you come in and perform the same basic exercises they give you to do at home which in my opinion isn’t worth your time and money. Every session at our clinic is 1-on-1 for 60 minutes with a Doctor of Physical Therapy that entails both a mix of hands-on (manual therapy) treatment, reassessments as needed, and higher level exercises. Each session included a lot of patient education on reasons for each exercise, as we try to see our clients just 1x/week while providing them with a wide array of activities/exercises to perform outside of the clinic to continually improve each week. We also have the ability to treat multiple body parts at once as needed, because most issues are never stemming from just one region. Any in-network PT clinic would require a separate evaluation and plan of care to treat your knee pain if you were originally there for shoulder pain, thus taking more time and more money from each client. We have had several clients come to us after going to “traditional” in-network PT, who were able to get back to lifting, sport, or just daily life without pain in as little as 3 visits because we truly listen to each client as well as generate a program specific to their needs.
The niche we work with most is the Golf athlete. The therapist here is Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified and treats golfers of all ages and skill levels. Having a mix of both young and older athletes shows that proper rehab and training is needed for everyone!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a physical therapist who has been practicing for 6 years now after graduating from Daemen College in 2017 with my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. I was an athlete my whole life and have now shifted to treating and training athletes. At Kendall Performance Physical Therapy PLLC, we are classified as a “performance therapy clinic” because once we get each client out of pain or moving better, we transition right into training to get our athletes back to performing at their highest level.
What sets us apart- see previous answer, but in a nutshell, we are cash-based/out-of-network, which allows us to treat who we want and how we want without the restrictions from insurance companies who don’t care about the client.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I did “travel physical therapy” for the first 3 years after graduating and loved every second of it. Once COVID hit my wife and I returned home to Buffalo, NY where I took a job at a local outpatient orthopedic clinic. The clinic was slower due to the effects of COVID, but I quickly realized that once the world opened back up, that in-network clinics in Western New York were not a place I want to work. The average physical therapist here sees 20-30 people EACH DAY, meaning every 15-20 minutes a new patient comes in and is then passed off to an aide or assist, or worse they just do their exercises on their own. I knew then and there that I needed to branch off to start my own business to actually treat people the way they need to be treated.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I began working per diem at a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) while starting my business as a side hustle. After about 4 or 5 months I was burnt out from the SNF job and decided to jump all in on the business. The finances were tight for a while, but then I started working with a company called “Clinical Marketer” which was a huge help in bringing in new clients. They focus on using Facebook Ads to get interested clients, which was how I began creating consistent revenue with new clients. Performing workshops at local gyms had helped in the past, but the Facebook ads were the game changer.
