We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christopher James. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christopher below.
Christopher, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Through my years practicing as a board-certified anesthesiologist, I felt a void to what I could still be contributing. Recalling my journey of completing my education and training to become a provider, I got a tattoo on my arm each time I concluded a program to commemorate the intensity behind these achievements. From completing my undergraduate program, graduate school, medical school, residency, and fellowship, I have accumulated 5 pieces on my arm to fill a sleeve. My arm serves as a symbolization of my two greatest passions: medicine and tattoos. Over time, my experience in assisting patients with conditions requiring general anesthesia has motivated me to extend my care to individuals interested in tattoos who may have never considered it before. I do understand this method is not for everybody and I respect that. With Sedated Ink, we focus our efforts on ensuring our patients are safe and satisfied with their tattoo procedure.
My greatest advice to any young professionals seeking entrepreneurship is to allow passion to guide the course. Although the risks of uncertainty are inevitable, perseverance and the ability to recognize challenges as an opportunity for growth are crucial.
Christopher, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Chris, the founder of Sedated Ink. A new venture that integrates my passion for practicing medicine with the artistic expression of tattoos. Sedated Ink’s mission is to provide a convenient and comforting experience to getting a tattoo. We hope to reach those with any personal circumstances that may prevent them of the ability of having a tattoo done by providing local or general anesthesia to ease the discomfort of getting tattoos and saving a lot of time to the shops. There are many factors that may cause someone to be drawn back from getting a tattoo, whether that may be the navigation of scheduling conflicts, fibromyalgia, or sensitivity towards needles. Providing anesthesia is our alternative to appeal to those who hesitated from the traditional methods to tattoos.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I couldn’t be able to establish Sedated Ink without my amazing team! Recognizing and acknowledging their efforts and expressing openness for communication and guidance allows me to provide the space for growth.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Sedated Ink was inspired by my personal experience from getting tattoos. I understand the time, commitment, and pain of having tattoos done. It’s not at all a simple process. Finishing my sleeve took five 8 hour sessions. Patient care and safety is my main priority and my years of practice with various complex medical procedures fosters my credibility in this process.
