We recently connected with Christopher Jackson DJ / Producer/ Radio Personality and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christopher Jackson thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In July 2021, I was working my full time job and DJing part-time. While working my job, I was interning at the radio station, doing clubs/lounges in the evening, and getting booked for private events and weddings. Now, my job wasn’t much to be honest, It did not bring me enough encouragement every day and I was trying something new just to see how it was going to turn out. I honestly felt like management was actually about to let me go because it was taking me a while to get used to how protocols goes. I was missing many opportunities to see myself grow and I just felt stuck to my job because I needed security. So, I started to just pray about a break through and asked god to give me a sign when he wants me to leave and walk in my calling.
On a Saturday when I was booked for an event, My manager told me I needed to come to work at a specific time, even though we already discussed I would be absent that day because of my event. After we’ve already discussed back and fourth and was unable to make it to work. My manager gave me an ultimatum of “If you’re not coming to work, I need you to come and drop off your keys tomorrow !” That was the last sign of when I knew it was time. I take a-lot of things as a sign from God and after prayer and considering I would gain more availability if i was full time, that was when I decided to pursue my career as a Full Time DJ
After taking that risk of being full time in my career, I’ve gained more radio exposure, DJ’d more events, learning how to become a producer, starting my own Artist Marketing campaign, meeting other DJ’s and Artist and networking, winning DJ battles, traveling to New York !
All that to say, Sometimes it’s scary to take a risk and leave security, but when you walk faithfully in your calling. I can guarantee the reward its even bigger !
Christopher Jackson, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been a professional DJ since 2010 and I’m going into my 12th year. I mainly just enjoy collecting music and showcasing my personality through music and DJ techniques. I have gained majority of my experience doing college parties, school events, and private parties. I provide a fun and excited style of music to make people feel good at any event. I provide great communication and customer service that guarantees relationships. What I am most proud of is my confidence to being able to take my career to the next level even when people want to try to do the norm and use it as a side hustle. The main things my potential clients should know is booking my services will create a remarkable experience through music and personal relationship. Every client event, I’ve DJ for has called me back, referred my to their friends and family and given me great reviews on my services. In my 11 years of DJing, I have not receive 1 bad review or comment on my style.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
TIk Tok & Reels has become a popular way to showcase your skills/talents and services. Using my personality and knowledge of music, I thought of ways to express myself on those platforms and just to stand out from other people. I started to do mix videos of my favorite artist , favorite era of music and transition videos. These videos started to get reposted and just trending on TIK Tok and Instagram.
From doing this experience, I started to learn the algorithm of what my audience likes, I started to notice who enjoys my content and just started catering to them.
That experience taught me that you should pay attention to your audience, looking at what they like and start catering to that when it comes to social media content. You can still also just be creative and express yourself its okay to be different and either way somebody will like it !
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
