We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Grainger a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I was over at a friends house having having a few beers, and we were discussing the name of the company. We were going through names that I had thought of, but none of them were clever. Then possibly after a few more beers, my friend looked at me and said, ” what if we took your last name Grainger and combined it with entertainment? He then shouted ” Graingertainment ” . I instantly loved it and the rest is history.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The DJ business stumbled upon me at a young age. I was in a comical hip hop group in my early twenties that made me buy a speaker system. A friend of mine was getting married and he asked me if I would DJ his wedding. I did and it was a terror. It was awful.
A few years later I worked at a banquet hall that catered to weddings. I saw a lot of Djs come through to DJ the weddings that we catered to. Most of these DJs were not good, compared to my standards. After a year being a server there, I realized there was a real need for good Djs still in our local market of Florida.
We started Graingertainment using just a home computer and two speakers, only advertising on Craigslist and social media. Fast forward to 2022, we now have twelve DJs and ranked one of the top DJ companies in Central Florida. Having over 3000 weddings and events completed under Graingertainment.
Thank God first off for even having this oppurtunity for our clients. It’s been a lot of hard work, but very rewarding . We know by listening to our clients, and always learning to keep up with the trends and to polish what we already know, is what keeps us ahead of the competition and to book more business.
We provide audio, lighting, photo booths, visual effects, and the party of a lifetime! We are constantly adding more items to our inventory to be able to give our clients more options to choose from.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
You have to know what your customers want, but all customers want the same thing. They want to be treated fairly, with excellent customer service, and to feel appreciated.
We are true to ourselves and we want the best for our clients. Word of mouth gets around quick and we have built a solid reputation.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social Media. Social media has been such an amazing tool, to showcase on a large level who we are and the clients love it. Since 2020, are main steam of new clients have been from social media.
