We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Glenn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher , thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Me being a artist & also a record label CEO I have to pull from a lot of personal experiences in order to make my vision come true and put meaning behind the songs that I put out there. My stage name “6Two Cory” and my record label “62 Cap the label” both has a obvious similarity. The 62 or 6Two. The number 62 has a big meaning to me. I was born and raised on a street in Milwaukee Wisconsin called 62nd and capital Drive I was raised in one house where i lived for 22 years out of my life until I moved to Los Angeles California. If you don’t know Milwaukee, Wisconsin is a city that’s not really exposed to the public, but has a lot of meaning, especially for my culture. Wisconsin over all is considered a fly over state. Milwaukee is a beautiful city with a wide variety of things to do but it is also a city of dangerous situation’s. The mix of both made me the man I am today and also the artist I am today. my mission as a recording artist coming from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and also as a CEO of a record label, I strive to give the youth hope that anything is possible. In Milwaukee, we never really had anyone who came from the city and actually came back and gave back to the city. My mission is to give back to the city, the community and give the city hope once & for all.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, first, my name is 6Two Cory. I’m recording artist, model, fashion, designer, and record. Label CEO from Milwaukee, Wisconsin i start doing music when I was in the third grade. I started off playing the trumpet. My parents were both into music. My dad was a guitar player and my mom was a recording artist from back in the 80s. They always kept me busy with instruments. I went on to play the piano guitar and drum set I continue to play the trumpet for 11 years after I started. With the musical background that I had, I then fell into hip-hop music. My biggest idols was Lil Wayne 2Pac and biggie smalls. I wrote my first rap song when I was 13 years old and present it to my parents which they were highly impressed and their support began from that point forward. I continue to work on my craft throughout high school, which I landed my first song on the radio junior yea in high school called “swag it out” . Swag was a dance that was really popular in my city at the time I capitalize off of that song for my junior summer. I had a follow up song by the name of “Twang” which was another dance that a lot of kids were doing in my city. That also ended up being on the radio by this time I was a senior in high school and beginning to graduate. after high school I continued my music career, but I have noticed that I reached a peak in my city Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After trials and tribulations and a lot of contemplating. I actually ended up moving to Los Angeles, California with my mom and dad. At the age of 22. Moving to California really changed my life and the way I thought about a lot of things. I somehow to the grace of God, started acting which I put my first national commercial with my mom for swiffer. This commercial led me to a lot of big things such as signing with my agent, Nick Roses at Pantheon talent agency. on the pantheon roster I’ve landed seven national commercials, such as Honda McDonald’s, Apple, Adidas, fresh and empire and few more. i’ve also went on to play in multiple TV shows, and also play in the movie dope with A$AP Rocky. During the pandemic, I really locked in on my musical craft for I had nothing but time to just make music. The pandemic is when I start a lot of new ventures in my life such as my new record label my clothing line “brand 62” and also the start of many great records that is still spinning today. During the pandemic, I happened to land two of my records “ movie” and “hustle” on NBA 2K which I am proud of. I continue to make music and continue to strive for greatness in the entertainment business. during a very low point in my life where I had Covid and also I suffered from a broken leg. I feel like everything was falling apart but during this time, I made some of the best songs of my career this far. One song is called “from the bottom”, which is spinning on my local radio station right now in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 105.7 with the thanks of DJ GeeA. From the bottom has been played at the Milwaukee bucks stadium and also spun by a lot of big known DJs around America. another song that I did while I was sick and out of commission is this song called “Zado” . This song was actually made for a tequila company called Lobos, 1707. After releasing the song, lobos contacted me to be a starter brand ambassador for their company. I am really psyched to work with Lobos 1707 because I believe in their mission and their mission is to build a bigger table and to build a bigger team which is pretty much the same mission that we have over here at 62 cap the label. Fast forwarding to now 2023. I just released one of my biggest records for the summer “prove to you” which will be featured on my upcoming EP “It’s all love” I am also working on my debut album the Cory story which will be released later this year. In the meantime, as far as the Acting, I am filming short films with the famous YouTube star Elhaj from Elhadj TV
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was that if you work hard things will happen in your timing and that’s something that I used to believe a lot but in all actuality, when you work hard, things will happen in Gods time and also the universe timing thinking about this causes me to not be as stressed out sometimes because I know if things are not working out in my timing it will work out In Gods time and everything will work out at the end so when things fall apart I never panic because I know is falling apart for a reason. if I don’t get the opportunity that I’ve been waiting for I look at it like it’s just not the right time but the opportunities gonna come
Have you ever had to pivot?
A time when I had to pivot in my careers when I first moved to California. I moved to California to do music, but I got to California and realize that the Acting Business is actually just as big on the West Coast so me trying out the Acting I actually became quite successful in it and it made me not stop music but slow down on music and see where the Acting field was going to take me
