We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Garcia Romero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I grew up with a single mother because my father passed when I was two. I would say my mother did her absolute best to raise me and my brothers with good morale and in the best possible way even with all of the adversity she faced.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an artist, audio producer and sound designer. I first got a taste of my love for music at the age of fifteen while I was in high school. I had always been curious about music creation because I grew up dancing. Through dancing I was able to learn rhythm and how to feel the music. I then learned how to play the piano and guitar by ear and joined the high school choir. After school my friends and I would go to the music studio to experiment with different equipment, then I was hooked and haven’t looked back since. As of today I create my own music independently and through collaboration. I also provide my clients with creative solutions to their inquiries. Wether it’s through production, recording, mixing or mastering a track, you can confide in me to achieve the sound that you desire. As far as problem solving, I believe music serves various purposes including; entertainment, communication, storytelling, ritualistic or religious practices, and personal expression. It has the power to evoke emotions, bring people together, and leave a lasting impact on individuals and communities. I dedicate myself to ensuring that the messages in the music are clearly interpreted by the listener whilst also providing an enjoyable listening experience. What I am most proud of in my work is being able to see the smiles on people’s faces once we listen to the final product (it feels amazing!). I want everyone to know that I love doing what I do and am very grateful and blessed to be able to walk this path considering all of the sacrifices made by my mother. I will continue to grow as a brand and am constantly looking for different avenues in which I can serve the creative community around me.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
At the age of twenty two, I tragically lost the only parental figure I had ever known… My mother. This devastated me and I wanted to give up on everything, but I couldn’t. There was just something that wouldn’t allow me to do such. I had a feeling… a voice inside of me that kept reminding me of all of the sacrifices that my mother made in order for me to be able to do what I love and to lead a better life. See I was born in the Caribbean and grew up with a single mother due to my father passing away in a fiery car accident when I was just two years old. This was a perfect formula for adversity. Now I just want to help change lives and perspectives. I am here for a reason and I want my music to be an example of that.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The joy of creating a time stamp in history by capturing emotions in songs that can influence for the rest of time. Being able to relate through being a creative, the feeling of knowing that I am not alone and being my most authentic self at all times are the probably the most rewarding aspects for me.
