Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christopher Fabor Muhammad . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am more than happier as an artist creative! I’m am living a dream; fulfilling my purpose and impacting the lives of others! What more can I ask for? I never really think about having a regular job but I have thought about jobs like that which I’ve had at some point. For example I thought about when I worked as a cashier to earn extra money even while I was an art teacher. It was at an Educational retail store and I had a terrible experience learning how to work their system with no experience and a very bad manager.. Today I am creating my own products for stores like that and I so much more happier creating and marketing to the retail chains versus the role I was playing before.
Christopher, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After teaching art in schools with the initial intent of becoming a counselor, I dreamed of putting my own work out there for years. Once I started, I never looked back, and the journey has me amazing! I consider myself a cultural revolutionary. My work is a ministry of art; culture and education! I create illustrations and paintings to inspire; edu-tain and create cultural awareness specifically to awaken and give mental life to the Black population and other oppressed people of color in America and around the globe. I also produce creative programs and organizations to do the same through a lens of social justice. Business is warfare and my company Creative Force produces a Single Panel Cartoon called the Amerikids which addresses illiteracy and miseducation through self knowledge with whimsical humor and imagery.. It is the fastest growing SEL tool for educators and parents alike. Our after school programs offer an uncanny approach to integrating the arts into every subject in the classroom as well as address the social ills of the time in a way that improves student performance academically and behaviorally. Lastly I direct a nonprofit Arts Reforming Communities that focuses on Creative Placemaking through beautification projects like wall murals and gardens! I also host Paint & Sip parties from time for time as well.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
That the rewards are multiple in amount and immeasurable in scale
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Put more dollars behind arts education ; enrichment and salaries of those within arts and creative industries. and stop thinking artists should do everything for fre me or at less value than they are worth
