We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christopher thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I often admired other artist’s work, trying to imitate them. From there I was inspired to take an art class in High School and from there, furthered my education at The Art Institute. Speed up my learning process? Believe I could have been more consistent. I found by taking too many breaks, I was holding myself back.
I learned some initial skills while taking an art class in High School and learned even more while in college.
I think one can become self-taught but if you don’t have any direction or focus on what to learn and a good place to find information, it can take longer to figure out what you need or want to learn. For me, being in school accelerated my learning process and kept me consistent.
Fortunately, nothing stood in my way of learning more and I always find a way to learn more, with the internet being so accessible it makes researching easier now-a-days.
Christopher, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into Graphic Design because of my love for art and with that, wanted to do something where I could teach myself different forms of art. One of my friends, who is also a Graphic Designer, was one of my motivators. I like to study different mediums such as painting, digital art and traditional drawing, which are the services that I provide when someone needs either a painting, digital work or a traditional art done. Some problems that I have to solve are helping people to bring out their creative side with last minute requests.
It is important that I be very detailed in what I do, as my brand is important to me; it is a representation of who I am and what my work stands for.
A few things I am most proud of would to be, I never gave up having faith in what I do and the journey it has taken me on. Knowing that I inspire and motivate people is a great feeling.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As a kid, I loved watching cartoons and thought it would be a great opportunity to work with a Cartoon Network and other major companies. This is still one of my goals, as I continue working on my art in hopes of collaborating with other great artists.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is when I inspire someone to create something and being able to help people who are just coming up wanting to do art and in turn, inspire our youth. I find it very rewarding, helping people to bring a client’s visions to life/reality. When someone looks to me to bring their vision to life, it’s a great feeling making it happen.
