We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful CHRISTOPHER A WALDRON. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with CHRISTOPHER below.
CHRISTOPHER, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
My Book “The Illustrated History Of The Nation’s Best Dj’s” will set a new industry standard, because what I’m doing has never been done. I’m not only setting a new industry standard but I also creating my own lane in the Dj Industry. What I am creating is a series of Volumes for each state, Showcasing the some of the states top Dj’s. From all corners of our industry, from nightclubs, bars, radio, events, Pro Sports Teams, EDM, Hip Hop, and festivals, ones that have made their mark on the industry. I give each Dj 4 pages, the first two are filled with exclusive gig pics of the dj and their logos. Their next two pages I created bio pages that include all the info you would want to know. Also there are 4-5 QR codes which go to their social media, website, merch, Twitch, youtube, and access to each of the Dj’s multiple music sites. giving each Volume a vault of music from the states best. Also giving you a direct link to their booking info. The industry standard for magazines, and newspapers would be for me to sell each of the Dj’s Ad space and those who pay would be the only ones represented. My thought was to try something that really has never been done. By not charging any of the Dj’s for their pages, the custom art and artwork, layouts, changes, and making sure every Dj is shown in their best light. and by not doing that in return I have also created a army of die hard promotors that will treat this project like its their own because they are in it. And you can not buy that type of true promotion from any advertising company. By creating my own lane in my industry with this project, I don’t have anyone doing anything like I’m doing so I’m not stepping on anyones toes which has earned me the full support and help from the states dj industry and all my peers.

CHRISTOPHER, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am one of many skills, since I was young I was drawn to music. My brother Michael Waldron who is also one of the best Dj’s in the state and I grew up in a deaf household. Raised by our Mom who was Deaf, I would say thats what sent both my brother and I on our journeys to becoming Dj’s and our love for music. I also was really into art at a early age, I loved to draw and create and as I got older I got in to computer art programs. Learning Corel Draw at first then once I had got Adobe Photoshop 4 I self taught myself the whole program using Youtube. Then learned more as future versions came out. Which I have applied to my Dj career through out the years by doing my own album covers, flyers, logos, and merch. I also have done a lot for my peers, events, and for clubs. My art skills and Djing has worked hand in hand for me throughout my career. I started Djing in high school and knew then that is what I wanted to do with my life. I had practiced in my mom’s basement for almost a year before I played anywhere. I then started off doing house and warehouse parties and had got a job at Deja Vu Showgirls which I worked at for 5 years starting off as a bouncer then I Dj’ed and then became a manager running my own shifts. Then one of my best friends who I grew up with and did music with passed away in a car wreck. That was really hard on me at the time and didn’t even want to be around until I had got booked to dj a event in Las Vegas. Which I had never been to Las Vegas before and I loved it so when I got back, I packed my stuff and got a transfer from the Deja Vu out here to the one in Las Vegas and a week later I moved. After a few months working in Vegas at Deja Vu I had met the crews that were throwing all the big club events and afterhours. That is where I met my roommate at that time who was doing all the sound for most all the events and afterhours and I ended up getting on the top crew in Vegas doing events. That where I was part of events for Club Utopia, Club RA in the Luxor, Spearmint Rhino Afterhours, GLO Bar, The Hop, Forbidden Club and many others. I worked with GLO Productions with Gino LoPinto and with Bo Karlen of Bo-Town Productions plus others. I loved my time in Las Vegas and learned a lot about the industry and production. After 5 1/2 years Djing and doing events in Vegas it started to run it’s toll on me – A 24 hour town where everyone want your job, you have to work extra hard to keep your value. So I then moved back to Colorado Springs.
Back In Colorado I had got a job at The Doubletree World Arena as the Entertainment Director and Dj. Where I entertained the entertainers that would perform at the World Arena. I did one of my favorite events there I had the opportunity to Dj and do football trivia for Linkin Park’s Super Bowl Party for the band and all their road crew. I also Dj’ed for The Eagles and their road crew, Cher and her road crew, and several other big touring artist. I also picked up a residence spot at Union Station where I worked for almost 5 years. I then started Djing downtown where I had residence spots at The Thirsty Parrot (6 years), Gasoline Alley (4 years), Southside Johnny’s (2 years) and then Individual nights at different clubs downtown. I was apart of crew during that time which was 3 of my other friends and I called “The Weed Pimps” we started off as a clothing line and then started doing and being apart of events during the start and after legalization. We threw “Rock the Canyon 1 & 2” which were big events and we had did multiple events with Tommy Chong and many other celebrities and national touring artists. We were then asked to do a show on the first every in history cannabis talk radio on the FM dial called KHigh which we were featured on the CBS Morning Show. That then turned in to Blazin 98.5 FM where we had our show “The Weed Pimp High Drive At 5” we did a 2 hour show during rush hour which was cool because we would take songs that never had it’s day on the radio because there were no clean versions and we would edit them allowing us to play stuff no one had ever played on the radio before. I have continued to do events for years after that – I dj’ed at 2 High Times Cannabis Cups (2 years), Bongathon (10 years), Sensi Magazine Resident Dj (6 years), South Park Music Tour (3 years) , Dj’ed for Copper Mountain (2 years) , Breckenridge Snow Sculpting Championship (2 years), Pourhouse in Loveland (2 years), THC Music Festival (event), Las Vegas Hempfest (event), Grassroots 710 Cup (event), Devin The Dude/Lil Flip – Aspen (event), 5th Annual Dj Tribute (event), Hemp Hop Fest – Fort Worth, TX (event), US Air Force Graduation (event), Fire Arts Festival – Breckenridge (event), Colorado Ice Indoor Football – Budwieser Center (1 year), Red Bull – Winterpark (Event), Green Leaf Expo (event), Bands in the Backyard (event), US Cannabis Expo (event), Springs Bikini Bar (2 years), Speak Easy Cannabis Club where I worked with Mobb Deep, Three 6 Mafia, Cassidy, Lil Flip, Devin the Dude, Yukmouth, Los Marijuanos, Dead Prez, Baby Bash, Potluck, and more (4 years), Dab Lounge (3 years), Canna Rave 1 & 2 (events), MMJ Meet and Greet (2 years), Cannabis Business Awards (event), Denver 420 Fest (event), SOCO Rock The Troops with Drowning Pool & Fuel (event), Lowrider Magazine Show (event), The Secret Cup (event), Cannapages Live (3 events), The Munchie Cup with Grandmaster Caz (event), 4 Afroman events, and many more.
Another thing I am very proud of is my Bandcamp site, I started mine around 10 years ago. Through the years I would make original mash ups and remixes and record them and post them to my Bandcamp. Which no one really paid no mind until this past April when I was featured on “Radio 1” which is the number one radio station in the U.K. after that almost over night my sales and plays started to sky rocket and haven’t stopped to this day. I average around 70,000 plays a month and have over a million total plays, and I have put out 1,222 Albums – I am now a best selling mash up artist on Bandcamp, I have 20 or more albums in the best selling top 60 charts daily. I continue to put out music and have gained worldwide fans.
I have recently started on a new project that I created and put together myself. What I have done has never been done before. I am working on a series of illustrated books on “The History Of Some Of The Nation’s Best Dj’s”. All the artwork, layout, and research is done by me, Starting with Colorado I’m creating 3 Volumes that are 8.5×11 and have 220 pages in each volume showcasing 50 Dj’s in each volume, and even though it is 3 volume it will be one book alphabetized starting volume 1 and ending volume 3. I wanted to do something different and wanted to create something that people would hold on to forever and at the same time pay tribute and show respect to my industry and to the Dj’s who have help create Colorado’s music landscape. How I have the book laid out is I’m giving each Dj 4 pages – the first two pages include exclusive pictures of the Dj, their Dj name logo and their crew/company logo which I took and illustrated. The next two pages I created bio’s for each Dj by having them answer 15 questions which lets you know all about the Dj including name, dj name, city. what kind of music they spin, crew, year they started djing, equipment they use, if they are a vinyl dj or controller dj, what clubs they were resident dj at, and what big events have they done. I also include 5 QR Codes that allow you to take a journey outside the book and links you to each of the dj’s social media, website, shop, merch, youtube, and also all their music sites such as Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Twitch and others. Giving the reader access to 100’s of hours worth of music from Colorado’s best Dj’s. I included each Dj’s booking info also to allow readers to book their favorite dj. I then plan on doing this state to state creating a whole series of books on the nation’s best Dj’s. Like I said this has never been done so I have created my own lane in my industry where I have no competition and by doing this I have received overwhelming support from Colorado’s whole Dj industry. My only obstacle is getting the funding to have it all printed, so if you would like to help by donating towards the printing costs to complete this amazing project please send to my paypal at [email protected] it would be so greatly appreciated.
