We were lucky to catch up with Christion Elijah Sangster recently and have shared our conversation below.

Christion , appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea

The Rise of DEMS athleisure started off as a creative outlet for me. Since a Child I’ve always enjoyed the freedom that fashion brings, their is absolutely no limit. which in all honesty, is the exact thought that keeps me going. After months of journaling and self reflection, I’ve decided that I wanted to do things a little differently than the people before me. . .Though in family’s traditions, fashion seemed to be more of a birthright than it was an option, I’ve always dared myself to think outside of the box. After my internship with Spice boutique and being guided under the owner Alexis Spice, and overall working with female fashion. It left me feeling inspired. I started to ask myself the hard questions; Why is fashion so distinctive, especially when it comes to gender? I eventually decided that it was all an illusion and that your choice of fashion shouldn’t be dictated by the compliance of certain gender roles.. and from that exact moment, I decided that I was going to bend the rules and promote my own illusion, by creating a genderless clothing line, And that’s what brought us the rise of Dems athleisure.

Christion , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Creativity has always been my super power! Ever since my early experiences with journalism I’ve been prompted into divining into producing short films. I started off filming on my iPhone, and from there I started getting recognized for my editing, Coming from a full household, Having a great team really helped me stay on the right path in life, I kept my friends close and siblings even closer which allowed to to freely tap into my creativity without judgment. which overall induced me to start my clothing line. I am proud to say that Dems athleisure is an all exclusive gender neutral brand! I feel as if I had a head start into the future of fashion! I strongly feel that we’ll start to see many more brands convert to genderless apperal. Now is the time for self discovery and personal expression

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

When it comes to kickstarting brands we seem to only focus on the brand itself. For example, the types of products we want, our target audience, and in all reality the revune we’re going to make. But i feel that it goes a little deeper than that. Having a personal presence on social media is extremely Beneficial, not only does it give you an Opportunity to connect with you personal audience but it also allows them to be introduced to your brand. I found that the audience wants to watch you grow in real time! From every trial and tribulations, every moment is worth sharing, Their is always room to learn grow!

How did you build your audience on social media?

I feel that we are officially in the era of communication and Technology. Never before have we ever able to feel so connected! Social media is a great tool for growth & reaching your target audience. Consistency is key, your audience wants to fall in love with both you and your brand and posting frequently is a great way to secure it. Following similar accounts and gaining inspiration is a affluent way for people to relate to you. My biggest piece of advice is to start now! It is never too late to get out their and start posting, in a world that’s so connected through social media it’s always a high chance to find your audience!
