We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christine Tuccio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
After giving birth, my mind, body and emotions went on so many directions. It is true that after having a child, you’re not the same person anymore. That is when the idea of Rocking Momhood started. I wanted to be the person who helps others moms go through motherhood.
A few months past by and my daughter was a little bit older so I started doing my research on how to stimulate her, support her grown and give her the tools she needed to keep learning. I began doing sensory play for her and received so much positive feedback that I started focusing on doing that for others moms.
My mission is to help other moms navigate motherhood the easiest way possible. For some of them making a sensory bin is a lot of work but at the same time they’re trying to find a way to stimulate their babies and that’s what Rocking Momhood offers: a safe place where the little ones can explore, practice their motor skills and learn through their senses.
Christine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Peruvian Psychologist who moved to San Diego to study Expressive Arts Therapy and fell in love with the city. I also got my degree as a Rational Emotive Therapist at the Institute of Rational Emotive Therapy in Lima, Peru, certified by the Albert Ellis Institute in New York. I’m also a Reiki Healer and I think that the energy we put on everything is very important and will help to reach your goal. But my most important role in my life is being a mom to an amazing little girl.
The main reason why I started doing sensory play for little one, was to being able to work while being with my daughter. This was my way to incorporate work and being a mom together.
I do sensory play for little ones made with non toxic ingredients. Babies and toddlers explore the world through their senses and one of them if the mouth, so I make sure to use non toxic taste-safe ingredients so the can explore safely. This doesn’t mean parents will encourage their babies to eat what I make, but it will give the peace that if the taste it. they’ll know it won’t make them any harm.
I offer sensory classes, birthday parties and private events and I’m now selling my sensory kits, all made with my taste-safe ingredients.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Every start is slow, but I made sure to keep going. I started offering free classes, but the biggest impulse that I had for my business was to connect with all the mom groups in my area. I offered them big playgroup classes. I also offered a group discount.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I started my classes with only one child. Sometimes I felt like I didn’t want to make the effort on doing my bins and setting up everything, only for one child, but I did it. I kept doing it because at the same time I was making content for my social media.
