We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christine Nicole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christine below.
Christine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
When I think about what I want my legacy to be I think about how I want the world to be for my children. So much has changed since I was growing up, and it scares me to think I could leave them in this world. My oldest daughter was born at 24 weeks and was 1.5 pounds when she was born. Being so premature she was in the hospital for 4 months and went through surgery. The surgery caused her vocal cord to be paralyzed which affected her voice. One day recently she came home and told me that kids were making fun of her because she talks differently. It broke my heart, this world is so cruel. I dealt with bullies and being made fun of growing up. It truly affects you for life. I created my business, Bhad Behavior because I wanted to make a change. Being different is what makes you beautiful and special. That’s what I want to leave as my legacy. I want people to know that being yourself is bliss. I want to see the real, weird, unapologetically you! That’s what makes you interesting and it’s what makes you shine. Be different, don’t follow the trends, and don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t IT! The things that make you different are what make you beautiful.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Christine Nicole and I am a model, influencer, event host and boutique owner. You could say I’m a jack of all trades, I also provide makeup, photography and graphic design services. Check out my business, Bhad Behavior at Bhadbehavior.com or come visit us in store in Charlotte, NC. I run a group on Facebook called Influencher, which is a place for content creators and influencers to come together to learn, support each other and attend content events.
Growing up I always have had a passion for beauty. fashion and modeling. I use to draw sketches of designs and even create different looks to wear at a young age. I would do my friends hair, makeup and try new things on myself constantly. I started modeling when I was 18 years old because it helped me deal with things I was going through. I got married my senior year and had my first child then started being abused by my now ex husband. As a way to deal with the abuse I started modeling, it was always a passion of mine. I did some modeling and acting in my younger teenage years here and there but didn’t take it seriously. Modeling helped me feel good about myself again, it made me feel beautiful and free. It helped me deal with the pain and anxiety. I fell in love! I finally gathered the courage to leave my ex husband and change my life. He broke my arm and jaw which caused me to fall into a deep depression. Modeling helped me climb my way back out of a dark hole and brought joy into my life. When I moved to Charlotte I met an owner of a local modeling agency who wanted to sign me and I decided to go for it. Working with the different brands I was booked for inspired me to finally open my own business. It has always been one of my goals to start my own fashion line, and Bhad Behavior was born.
I created Bhad Behavior because I have always felt like an outsider and different. I was adopted at birth and as a mixed girl growing up with a Caucasian family I didn’t understand why I felt alone. I use to get picked on or put down but I’ve always stayed true to myself and confident in who I am. It made me inspired to create a clothing line for women like me, who are unapologetically themselves! Who have a different sense of style and want to be able to express themselves.
To have BHAD BEHAVIOR is all about being yourself and loving the person you are! You do whatever you want and look BHAD while doing it. It’s all about having confidence in yourself!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Being myself is what has brought me the most success. Making my own trends and my own mark. That’s the best advice I could give someone wanting to start their career as a model, influencer or starting their own business.
Don’t copy, don’t imitate and don’t follow everyone else. Be unapologetically you and stand on that! Show the world what you have to offer and give back. That’s how you go viral and that’s how you make your mark.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The best advice I can give anyone building their audience on social media would be to be consistent, post great quality, be yourself, know your audience and engage.
Being consistent is one of the biggest things I personally struggle with. The main thing that helps me is creating batch content and scheduling my posts.
Quality is so IMPORTANT. If something isn’t appealing to the eye 9/10 people are scrolling past it.
Being yourself brings the right audience to you. If you fake or imitate you are always going to be watching the next to make your next moves.
Knowing your audience and targeting them will make or break you. You can have amazing content but if you aren’t reaching those within your niche you won’t see results.
Engage with accounts similar to yours and within your niche. Follow and utilize hashtags that your target audience would see. Post content that draws your audience in and makes them want to engage.
