We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christine Majken. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christine below.
Alright, Christine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
The way that I view success is the ability to have longevity and growth in your profession. The longevity that I have had in my profession as a hair stylist is the focus I am able to maintain in the moment of time I am in. By doing this it clears my mind and opens my flow to create in an authentic way. This in turn also keep me open to new ideas which help me to grow.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Growing up outside of New York City, I was inspired at an early age by art, especially sculpture. The way I see hair is similar to the way I would see a sculpture, with its different textures and how you can mold it into different shapes. I also had a desire to be of service as well as being able to create. This is what led me to attend cosmetology school in Manhattan. After finishing the program I started my apprenticeship at John Dellaria Salon in Soho, NY. At that time I also started doing session hair for photo shoots. I enjoyed the creativity and collaboration of these shoots and started to focus on my session work. I later relocated to Miami Beach and have continued my session work as well as working in New York on teams for New York Fashion Week.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My mission on my creative journey is to stay true to your vision.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There are times that by staying true to my vision and my path I have missed out on some opportunities. In my experience this has always led me to another project or opportunity that was better suited for me. This has made me more resilient by giving me the courage to stay authentic and trust that what is meant for me will be what is best for me in that moment of time.
