We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christine Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The name of my company is Inside Out Health Wellness & Fitness. I was inspired to start my own business from my very own life experience. In the past, I struggled with alcohol abuse due to unresolved childhood issues, depression and wanting to escaped this thing we call life. I started young abusing alcohol. It was my senior year in high school to be exact. I wanted to drown the pain and go numb. As I got older, I yearned to heal and live a healthy lifestyle. This decision was not easy. I had to change my circle of friends, established a genuine relationship with God and fought for my happiness. As I got older, I had 2 beautiful children who depend on me and I knew I had to make the necessary changes for them. Once I got myself on track, I wanted to take it a step further and help others to be healthy and whole. I self published a book titled, “10 Years in a Bottle.” which is available on Amazon. After my book, I became a certified personal trainer and launched my health and wellness business in 2020. It is my passion to help people be healthy from the inside out. Exercising for me, has been a healthy outlet to relieve stress and workout with others to fellowship & hold each other accountable. It makes my heart smile when someone gives me a good report about how my influence and impact has changed their life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Not only was my past an influence on my decision to become a personal trainer, but my parents’ health was as well. I loss my dad due to complications with diabetes and my mom has challenges due to high blood pressure, causing her to have multiple strokes. It breaks my heart to know that in both cases, it was something that could be prevented. As a personal trainer, I train women and children because it’s what I most relate to. I understand the needs of the woman’s body and children just have a soft spot in my heart. I have much love for our fellas out there but when it comes to training, I intentionally decided to focus on women and children because I do believe that is my strength.
I love connecting with women from various backgrounds and pouring into them because I know what it feels like to need your cup refilled. I act as an accountability partner, coach, guide, and teacher to make great choices. I want my clients to be the best version of themselves from the inside out. I love the client who is a beginner with exercising or possibly intimidated with health & wellness because it allows me to help them get over those fears and conquer their goals. We must remain teachable because new and improved information comes out all the time. When I see women accomplish a health and wellness goal, I know that I am walking in my purpose. I offer group training, small groups, one on one sessions as well as virtual.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Becoming a fulltime entrepreneur has not been easy. I left my job in December of 2021 and became a personal trainer fulltime. By March of this year, I was faced with back-to-back challenges and had to come up with a new plan to be effective and successful in my field. I was dealing with a bad break up, changing facilities to train from and helping my mother with her health issues. Let me tell you… Just because you have dreams, does not mean life will stop lifing. That’s right “Lifing!” I had to figure out how to push through and handle my personal issues while still pursuing my dreams. I am a woman who has major faith in God because he has pulled ya girl through many times so I knew this time would be no different. I know that with my work ethic and my faith in God, I was unstoppable. To put it simply, I am training out of my 3rd location since January and that has been frustrating but rewarding simultaneously. It showed me how strong and determined I am to make it happen and that God always shows up.
People questioned my decision about leaving an amazing job to become a trainer fulltime, but I knew this is what I was supposed to be doing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried on this journey, but I also can’t tell you how many praise breaks I’ve had because I’m still standing!!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started out modeling some years ago, so it blossomed from modeling to hosting and just being a social butterfly. I absolutely love people and enjoy the excitement of new adventures. On social media, I like to post from a transparent point of view. I try not to overshare but share the parts of me that I know can encourage someone else. I am a complete goof ball, so I give that side of me as well. People need to see more “Real” on a world full of filters. When I post, I try to keep in mind the different aspects I want to the world to see about me. Faith, Heath & Wellness, Family, Laughter, and Beauty. My social media is well rounded with each.
My suggestion to someone trying to build their social media platform is know who your audience is that you are targeting and be consistent with posting for them. People love content they can relate to or aspire to be authentically. Don’t get on social media trying to copy someone else. Be your true self because that is what people will appreciate. If you are providing a service or selling a product, I need to be able to see that from the content you post.
To me a big no no is being messy and unprofessional on your page that you conduct business. That is such a turn off. It can definitely run people off. Lastly, be patient with yourself and don’t give up. Allow time for your business to grow. Don’t expect it to happen overnight and then you quit on what you love.
