We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christine Lan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My very first client happened to be one of my Instagram followers, someone I didn’t personally know. Launching my cosmetics brand was a thrilling adventure, and to my pleasant surprise, there was genuine interest from people wanting to purchase my handmade products. While I’ve been sharing my DIY recipes on social media for a few months, discovering that others were keen on buying them was truly heartwarming.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an actress who cares about our beautiful planet. What began as my little corner on social media, Eco-Amical, turned into a community of kindred spirits sharing a passion for reducing waste and embracing simple, accessible DIYs.
When videos of my journey making my own makeup went viral, it sparked something magical. With an outpouring of love and demand, I took the leap and began crafting handmade makeup for my followers. As time became a precious commodity, the evolution led to the birth of Olona Earth, my skincare brand with the same ethos and ethics close to my heart.
Olona Earth embraces fairness and kindness. Our products are not just beauty essentials; they’re a commitment to a sustainable, fair-trade, and natural lifestyle. Eco-Amical, on the other hand, is a glimpse into my DIY-filled life, a space where you can see the magic of living consciously.
Olona Earth is an extension of Eco-Amical, focusing on natural and cruelty-free skincare that resonates with the harmony we seek with the Earth.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am a professional actress and started my social media journey during the pandemic. During the pandemic a lot of my auditions were online which was a lot easier for me to juggle everything. As the world started to open up, auditions were in person and it was a lot harder for me to leave the house for auditions while also shooting social media videos daily and working on my skincare business. I talked to my acting agent and agreed that it would be best for me to only do online auditions as going in person would take too much time out of my day. My agent has been very supportive. I’ve been since working in the voice over industry while still being able to do everything I need to grow my brand. This was a shift in my life that was not easy. Acting was my career a long time before I started social media.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As an actress turned content creator I had to unlearn being someone else. A lot of people think that my acting has helped me in becoming a content creator, I had to shift my mind a lot. With content creation I had to be comfortable in being myself on camera. The more I was myself, imperfect and flawed the more people could relate to me and my experiences. It was not an easy shift and I’m still learning everyday.
