We recently connected with Christine Hatch and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Christine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?

I love being a business owner. Having the flexibility of my own time is what fuels me. It’s like every day is a blank canvas where I get to manage the day as I choose. No one to tell me I have to clock in or clock out, no one to answer to besides myself in terms of the number of hours I put into my business. It’s the entrepuer in me that really likes the freedom to use my day the way I see fit. Of course if I don’t work and use my time wisely daily, that shows in the results of my business. I do work weekends as well so there are times on the weekends where I think how nice it would be to take the entire weekend off without the phone ringing or emails to reply to. But then I quickly realized this is real estate. Home buyers are out looking for homes on the weekends and being a part of their team as their mortgage advisor, I help make their homeownership dream a reality. The smile on families faces as they get their keys to their new home is what I think of at that moment on a weekend where I think of having a regular job.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

The Mortgage Group is a family business. My father started our company in 1995. As a little girl, after school I would go and help my dad with his business. All throughout high school I was working with dad. I went to college and got my degree in Mathematics from Cal State University Northridge as I wanted to be a math teacher at the time. But working with my father all those years I realized how much I enjoyed the mortgage business and helping families into homeownership. After graduating college, I was full on in the mortgage business. In 2006, the company was transferred over to me.
We specialize in mortgage financing for home purchases and refinances, for 1 to 4 unit properties, Home Equity Lines of Credit, and Reverse Mortgages. We help buyers get pre-approved for a home loan and walk them through the process of home buying as well as help homeowners use their mortgage as a strategy for their short term and long term financial goals.
What I am most proud of as a company is that we teach, lead and inspire clients to get a plan, clearly define their values and map out a strategy for sustainable wealth through homeownership.
As mortgage advisors, we build lifelong relationships one client at a time through the conduit of trusted consultation and a referable level of product and process.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Past clients. The reason past clients have been the best source of new clients is because they are able to share their experience with family, friends and co-workers so knowing how we have helped them, guided them through the process and treated them like our own family gives new clients insight as to how the experience will be. Being referred by someone who has already experienced our process is what our business has been build on.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Transparency and education. I believe every individual should know the ins and outs of buying a home or refinancing. The more clarity there is, the better informed an individual is. With clarity comes confidence and confidence leads to better decision making. The process has so many moving parts so to have someone educating, hold your hand every step of the way and truly being on your team is what makes us unique.
