We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christine Anastasia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christine below.
Alright, Christine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The last several years through the pandemic have been transformative. I was furloughed, laid off, unemployed, started a business, was working as a stay-at-home mom and entrepreneur, and went from a secure paycheck to the uncertain financial stakes of being a new business owner. I don’t think anyone can prepare you for the undertaking of creating a business. While in your first year, you experience the highs, the lows, the triumphs, the losses and anything that you may have been insecure or less than confident will be shining brightly to let you know. It’s why I think entrepreneurship finds you, you don’t choose it.
When I was laid off from my position a few years ago, at the time I had two kids under 4 and during this pause I felt it was a big invitation to step into my purpose. My story needed to be shared, no matter how vulnerable, how messy, how many signs I may have missed. Like many professional working moms all around the country, I needed to express my truth. The one that was covered up for too long. I wasn’t going back to full-time work. I wasn’t going to look for a position. I was going to start my own life coaching business. I was just beginning.
The biggest takeaways that I witnessed in my transformation were small shifts in my daily mindset and habits. I went from being an overwhelmed and drained mom to feeling empowered and now I get to witness this transformation in my 1-1 clients and through my workshops and group programs. I feel grateful and glad I took this courageous step as I believe it’s one that is changing the fabric of how women show up as the best versions of themselves and for their families.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
With over 10+ years working in higher education and love for helping others, I love to educate, teach, coach, and support women that are experiencing burnout and overwhelm. By starting small and implementing wellbeing practices that fit your life is transformational and practical. After experiencing my own burnout as a working parent and being on the other side, I offers a safe and non-judgemental space so you can build confidence and support in this busy, overwhelming and often stressful chapter of your life.
As a busy mom of three young children, I understand the nuances and challenges of raising a young family and working full time. I use simple practices of less is more and progress over perfection. When you are on the hamster wheel, you are in fight or flight mode and you often don’t see what is happening. You are working, caring for your family and constantly putting out fires. I knew there was a gap in practical and validating support to help women anchor themselves in their wellbeing in micro steps. It is an ongoing practice that takes compassion, support, and intentional work. I believe that our own children benefit when we are modeling wellbeing for ourselves. I stands by the mantra of when mom is doing well, all she touches thrives.
How has your mindset affected your journey? What is some advice you have for someone that is seeking support with burnout?
Our mindset and stories we tell ourselves can have a gripping hold on us until we open up to see other options and allow ourselves to take a peek into our future selves or what we want for our growth and the next generation. While many parts of my entrepreneurial journey have been out of my comfort zone, I keep stepping in. I keep growing. My advice for others is to keep nurturing that project, dream, or thing you want to do. Gather support and a circle of advisors, coaches, and mentors that will help you get there.
1. Start Small.
2. Keep moving forward imperfectly.
3. Check in with your own internal compass. There will be many opinions, offerings, and insights.
You can move forward in the best way that aligns with your goals.
Preventing and recovering from burnout is an on-going journey. I remember it started small and in micro steps. I started with my physical health, then mental, then emotional. I worked through each layer with compassion and began the journey of being kind to myself. I knew no one was going to save me. I needed to take these small steps for myself. It had to happen for me and for the wellbeing of my family.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been through referrals and podcasting. Building trust and relationship is the core of my business. I am not a product and personal development and transformation work is squishy and not tangible. I believe all the answers my clients need are within them. I am a guide, reflector, and coach to help them move closer to their goals in a way that feels aligned for them.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The way you show up in business can have incredible energy or be a story of scarcity. There is a lot of scarcity in this world in mindset and the way we show up. I believe that abundance and worthiness comes from within and I’ve noticed that when I am coming from a place of abundance, worthiness, and hope, my audience resonates with this. Sometimes you can’t ‘see it’ in business, but intuitively I often tap into what goes beyond what is seen.
