Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christina Wellington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Christina, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

Back in 2012, I lost my Father. From that point on I had always wanted to work for myself. Coming from a retail position in which I was a multi-store Manager, I knew that above anything the name of my brand had to be memorable. I loved candles and wanted to make a candle line. Just like that Mellow Vibe Candles came to life. I came up with it in 2012. It is fully trademarked and licensed since 2021.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

How I got into my craft is one day I purchased a candle making kit. It was terrible, I made a candle that was shaped like the world but didn’t burn properly and I wish that I would have kept that but that was the beginning. I then went on to find suppliers of candle making materials and fragrances. Self taught myself the entire way. It’s been over ten years now and I’ve ordered from the same businesses.

Mellow Vibe Candles takes pride in crafting candles, linen sprays and perfume! Any size candle, any color, any fragrance and with any label we make it happen! My newest addition is my Candle Making parties and events! It is the thing I’m most proud of because I get to take groups of any race, age, gender and more and share in the art of Candle Making. We dance, we sing, we cite affirmations, eat food, have lots of drinks and create candles from start to finish.

I think what sets me apart from other Candle brands is my attention to detail in regard to my client. I really love my clients and things that they show me, I put into the classes. From the music, the labels and more I love to make it about them and I love to see their reaction.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

One lesson that I had to unlearn is there is no right or wrong way to do it. Sometimes business goes really well and other times it does not. You can follow every right step and one day something out of your control can happen and mess up your plans, The goal is to feel amazing with what you have done at any time.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I’ve had to pivot a few times in twelve years. One of the pivots was when I was thinking about offering Candle Making Classes. It is the one thing that really made Mellow Vibe Candles a household name.

I had a stroke on September 13, 2024 and had a thorough recovery. I am at a 99% recovery. The 1% is a delay in my speech. Sometimes you cannot tell that I have that delay. Since then I can only give what I can and what I can’t I don’t. With everything I just give my best. The best can never be denied.
