The Idea of My Sassy Bag

We were eagerly anticipating the excitement of a concert and noticing people filing in with unappealing clear bags that exposed their personal items, such as Identification and credit cards, cash, feminine products, and even medical devices! We felt that the enforced venue policies we were having to abide by were unfair and compromised one’s dignity, safety, privacy, and style. This was disturbing and caused us to think about a solution: a “temporary” cover that would enable us to comply with security checkpoints while maintaining our personal privacy and our own style.

So I quickly seized the opportunity to learn sewing and the operation of a serger machine from my enthusiastic mother. I found that I truly enjoyed learning about different fabrics and the necessary notions to create the most functional, clear crossbody bag and covers.

Today, we are thrilled to unveil an innovative creation—a movement towards “Privacy in Clear Bags” called My Sassy Bag!

Changes to our world

In recent years, our world has experienced a significant upheaval due to the pandemic outbreak. During this time, I observed how certain aspects of our lives underwent changes for various reasons in our new reality. One noticeable example was the alteration in attending public events. We were now required to carry clear bags, revealing the contents of our personal belongings.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I owned my own business as a virtual assistant for five years, just before the pandemic. I loved being able to support entrepreneurs in their passion. I mostly worked at home, reaching out to prospective clients as well as venturing out to support these professionals at their own live events on stage. Needless to say, the pandemic eventually put me out of business when the individuals I supported had to pivot to being 100% online.

I felt lost and a bit depressed, not sure what I was meant to do or where I was meant to be at this point in my life. I was not really looking for a career but wanted to do something that I truly enjoyed.

It was then that my husband and I were at a venue waiting for a show to start, and all of a sudden, my new direction would surface! The lights were on, and we were, watching women file into their seats in droves carrying their clear bags, exposing all of their possessions!

It had occurred to us that our world was changing so fast, and we barely recognized it anymore; after all, it was only recently that we were allowed to attend public events once again.
