We recently connected with Christina Terry and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2020, I was selling my homemade Elderberry syrup for my small business; The Crunchy Cactus. Elderberry was super popular during that time but when the shutdown happened, people were losing their jobs and no longer able to afford things like my wellness syrup and tea. So I started to barter with them just like the old days. I started to realize that a lot o my customers, neighbors and friends were picking up a hobby to sell online and make ends meet while they were out of the corporate world.
Items like woodcrafts, ceramics, jewelry and things of that nature were being traded for our wellness items. During that time a renegade period started where so many new small businesses began BUT there wasnt a proper and safe IN PERSON showcase for these talented folks. So, I created one.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Our mission is to diminish the stigma of the starving artist. We want to prove that there IS room for creative small businesses in this world and they ARE important. In the last 3 years we have expanded all over Texas in major cities like Houston, Austin & Dallas with national expansion in 2024 & 2025. We have helped showcase over 3,000 artists.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
This is an easy one! Its my husband! Yup, a family owned business! In the late summer of 2021, a year into my business venture, my husband quit his corporate chemist job to be a stay at home dad to our three kids ages 2, 4 and 6 as well as become the CFO of Vibe Artisan Markets. This has helped us expand and give me time to fully invest into these artists and giving them the proper showcase that they deserve.
Any advice for managing a team?
You truly have to have a passion for what you do. When your company gives you and those around you purpose, you know you’re on the right track. That positivity that surrounds a true connection to your business is what is going to enlighten and motivate those around you.
