We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christina Rogers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is subjective, so I think a big part of being successful is not comparing yourself to other people and celebrating small wins on the way to your ultimate goals. I’ve been successful with many things and it’s shown in multiple ways, but I’m always still fighting to achieve greater things. A big part of this journey is keeping my blinders on and focusing on what’s in front of me while realizing that most things are a distraction along the way. I think if we’re too close to Earth as entrepreneurs, that’s when things get a bit patchy! Keep your head in the sky!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an innovator as of 2021. I’ve worn a lot of hats so this is my newest one. I mostly tell people that I create stuff and get paid for it. I got into this realm by refusing to work for others. It’s my stubborn nature, I guess. In 2021, I invented The Protective Mouth Grill and I’m currently trailblazing it through the market after releasing it in June 2023. It’s been the most fun, interesting, stressful, terrifying, amazing journey thus far. The Protective Mouth Grill is changing the world of dentistry and jewelry as we know it. Traditional mouth grills are not the healthiest option for teeth, so I created a solution by putting a protective layer in between the gold and the teeth. It’s basically a retainer and a grill together so it opens up the path for those who are looking for a glorified retainer after braces.
I’m very proud of how fast it’s gained attention in the short amount of time on the market and I look forward to the future.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Every single day there is something new to endure as a “solopreneur”. Innovation is a brand new world for me as well as dentistry, so I’m learning as I go. I’m clawing at every single thing that I’ve learned in my prior years as an entrepreneur and trying to apply it day in and day out with this new endeavor but honestly I fail in some way every single day. I had to learn how to get comfortable with being a failure. I live with the thought, I sleep with the thought, I wake up with the thought and even when people praise me for being this awesome and incredible person, I still believe I am a failure but in a great way. You hear it often because it’s true. You have to fail to succeed. I fail fast and I fail often so that I can move on to the next thing. I believe that getting rid of the emotional and daunting darkness behind the negative aspect of failing is what makes me great. Growing thick skin in this industry is absolutely necessary to keep going. Even when you get kicked down and don’t feel like doing a thing, you have to still show up. It’s apart of it. There are many days where I peel myself out of the bed and just struggle to put one foot in front of the other, but I show up and that’s what matters.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I was a server back in 2012 when I decided to become an entrepreneur so I started my first business with my tip money. I believe I invested $40 max into getting it going and once I found my rhythm, the rest was history. I’ve done everything with my own money and I’m finally reaching the point where I’m tired of using my own money but I still stick to my rule… Use my money until I run out. Most people say that you should use other peoples money but I always think investing in myself with my own money makes me uncomfortable enough to keep pushing the business in the proper direction. One day it will pay off.
