We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christina Price a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
To empower others by living a life deeply rooted in faith that presents authenticity, self-awareness, and an openness to learn at any stage of life.
I am passionate about the Lord and serving others. In sharing my experiences, I believe this will encourage others to stretch past the superficial trappings of life and embrace the sovereignty of God’s purpose in their lives.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I would describe myself as dynamic, ambitious, empathetic and an enthusiastic life learner. As a Believer in Christ, my faith is the driving force for the many hats I wear. Some include being a mother, an HR operation professional and an author. My first book “Saved by Choice” was released in 2021.
I am a first generation American and was raised in a Hindu household. My upbringing had a mixture of cultural tension and a faith I did not understand. At the age of 19, I was introduced to Christianity by my mother. She was saved just a few years before she died from cancer. Once she died my faith was rocked and as I look back, I realize I did not have a strong foundation in Christ to withstand that experience. This caused me to distance myself from God and build a life that lacked self-identity and that was accustomed to dysfunction.
Over the years, I was married, had children, then divorced and found ways to live with the gnawing empty feeling in my soul. Coupled with anxiety and depression that I covered up for years; it was no surprise that I literally stumbled my way back to Jesus. Once I fully submitted, I finally began to heal. It was then the weights started to lift and I began to see myself in a new light.
This process led me to the book I wrote – “Saved by Choice”, which is a devotional memoir that discusses my experience in building a relationship with Christ. After walking away from my faith for years, I needed to learn learn God for myself and who I am in Him. Again, coming from Hindu family there weren’t any influences or elders to lean on, so I needed to be intentional in this process. In addition to that, it became important for me not only to “talk the talk” but also “walk the walk”. This meant not only reading Word but applying it to my life. In actually “doing” the Word, that is what led to wanting to deepen my personal development.
I am most proud of my vulnerability in sharing my process. In sharing the “messy” parts of myself without shame or condemnation, I realize this could be the exact thing someone else needs to hear to empower them on their personal journey. This book is for those who strive for progression, not only for their lives but, to also set up the next generation for success by exercising their power of choice, NOW.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
In answering this question, I must be honest in saying I that I never saw myself as a creative, even after publishing a book! It was a struggle for me to accept a title I didn’t see myself in. I later realized it was my own insecurities I needed to work through, and the title of artist or creative can take many shapes or forms. At its core, being a creative or artist is developing something from your heart with the hope to inspire others.
After submitting to the process, the most rewarding aspect has been watching God move through me. Hearing the how readers have connected to “Saved by Choice” and how it has helped in their healing journey, has been amazing. This confirmation that keeps me going and reminds me that this life is so much bigger than me. It’s truly humbling.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I believe the struggle comes with the inability to connect to the book whether, it is through their faith choices or the current state of their personal journey/development. I am empathetic in understanding we are all on different spiritual, mental and emotional stages. Especially, after we factor in varying life experiences and trauma endured along the way.
In having that awareness and extending grace, I believe it can help in the understanding and acceptance others.
