We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christina Ng. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christina below.
Christina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
The educational system would definitely benefit by integrating opportunities to engage in life skills training in areas such as cooking and gardening. Though a typical school day may already be packed to the gills with standard curriculum, surely there must be an opportunity to allow for a guest speaker, a field trip, or an afterschool class or club in which students could interact in a kitchen and immerse in a food culture with fresh, nutritious food at the helm.
I believe that a well fed and well informed student truly has the edge when it comes to mental stability, ability and clarity. Having a foundational understanding of food and nutrition has a direct correlation with performance and I feel that messaging should be front and center as students are progressing from school into their careers.
Christina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My entry into the food industry began during college, where I studied Food Science and worked part-time at a grocery store. Over the next decade post-college, I found myself working through multiple service models of food, including a corporate catering company, an ice cream shop, a large scale organic grocer, and even a food truck. Through each experience, the overwhelming lesson that I absorbed and still hold dear to my current mantra, was that quality should never be compromised with the guest experience.
Currently, I wear two hats in my professional career, Personal Chef and Non-Profit Foundation Cultivator for Berry Good Food. Both jobs share a requirement for seamless guest experiences and I personally pride myself in creating them consistently. I’m driven by my love and passion for good food at my events, and ultimately, my goal, no matter what hat I’m wearing, is to inspire change with every bite.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
It’s been an interesting last few years being a part of an industry that is reliant on people gathering. Though typical gathering opportunities like birthday and anniversary celebrations were postponed due to the pandemic, the demand for high quality, nutritious, immunity building food was still prevalent, and I was able to strike on that iron while it was hot. I quickly opened up delivery options to my clientele and operated at a less involved service model to begin. However, as restrictions lifted, I was able to pivot back into helping my clients celebrate their occasions the way they were meant to be celebrated. By demonstrating loyalty and flexibility to the client during trying times, I was able to maintain business and the client’s trust during less than ideal conditions.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I think social media is a fantastic tool to connect like minds and like communities! I’ve always thought of social media as the first handshake, whether it be a quick DM, a congratulatory comment, etc. Someone could be halfway around the world, but through the interaction you might have with them on a social media platform, the distance is closed and could even lead to actual real world opportunity!
