What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I started BRWN Hair, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Starting so fresh in the black hair industry that’s dominated by other successful black women doing their thing, and as a black woman, was overwhelming. However, I’m persevering. I’m driven by my goal to provide high-quality textured hair extensions for people like me.
Our journey isn’t without its obstacles. I continue to navigate complicated supply chains, deal with unscrupulous vendors, and learn the intricacies of marketing and branding. I often felt like an outsider in an industry that doesn’t respect and reflect my values or culture.
Despite the challenges, I keep pushing. We created BRWN Hair to create a brand that celebrated diversity, authenticity, and empowerment. And slowly but surely, we’re starting to gain traction.
Word is spreading about our textured extensions in various surrounding areas in the DMV. We’re building a loyal customer base and gained recognition from industry experts.
We’re prepared to compete with some of the biggest names in the industry.
I consider us a shining example of what can be achieved when you stay true to your values and work hard. We’ll continue to supply some of the best textured human hair on the market, while breaking down barriers and inspiring others to follow in our footsteps.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our commitment to quality, representation, and inclusivity has helped it grow through word of mouth. Our customers recommend our extensions to friends and family, leading to a loyal customer base and increased sales. This organic marketing approach has been effective for a small business like me, allowing it to reach a wider audience without relying on expensive advertising.
