We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christina Marquez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with CHRISTINA below.
CHRISTINA, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2020, I began experimenting with something I had always loved: creating balloon garlands. It started as a fun activity for my children’s birthday parties and family gatherings. Pouring my creativity and skill into each garland I began finding an immense joy in transforming simple balloons into colorful, festive displays. My designs grew more elaborate and admired by friends and family and I began to see a glimmer of possibility. Perhaps, just perhaps, this could be the path to my next adventure.
In February 2023, I crafted a beautiful balloon garland for a family member’s celebration. The response was overwhelming. People started asking about my services and how pricing worked. It was at that moment I felt a clear sign from God that this was my new path. He seemed to be guiding me toward starting a flexible business that would allow me to prioritize my family while engaging in something creative and joyful.
Determined to follow this new path, I took a leap of faith and launched my own business, “Events that Pop!”, specializing in custom balloon designs and backdrop decor for personal and corporate events. Embracing this opportunity has been a rewarding leap of faith, and I’m grateful for where it’s led me. Lastly, my success would not be possible without the unwavering support of my husband, Paul. His encouragement and backing mean the world to me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been immersed in the arts and surrounded by creative influences for as long as I can remember. I started dancing at the age of 3 and continue to teach dance education today. My journey into the creative world began with leading my high school drill team, studying dance in college, and earning a master’s degree in education from The University of North Texas. While pursuing my master’s, I embarked on a 14-year career as an educator, where I established dance programs for schools in South Dallas, ForneyISD, and, most recently, CarrolltonISD.
For years, I have devoted myself to guiding and nurturing young minds with unwavering passion. However, as my children—Lauren Catherine, Benjamin, and AnaSophia—grew older, I felt a strong desire to spend more time with them and explore a new chapter in my life. In 2023, I took a leap of faith and launched my own business, Events that Pop.
Everyone loves a great party, and I’m no exception! That’s why I eagerly embraced the opportunity to turn my passion into a business. With a sharp eye for creativity and detail, I specialize in transforming ordinary family gatherings into extraordinary celebrations. My mother significantly influenced my skills in party planning and decor, teaching me the value of meticulous details, strategic placement, and striving for perfection.
At Events that Pop, my signature designs, innovative techniques, and meticulous attention to detail attract clients who value a unique aesthetic. I specialize in creating customized balloon arrangements tailored to your preferences, allowing me to forge meaningful connections with my clients and bring their visions to life. Each personal touch is crafted to make a lasting impression and ensure your event is truly unforgettable.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My journey has been both beautiful and transformative, merging my commitment to my family with a newfound passion for balloon artistry. Life has a remarkable way of guiding us toward unexpected yet deeply fulfilling paths. I hope my story illustrates how embracing change, following one’s intuition, and heeding a bit of divine guidance can lead to truly rewarding outcomes.
The road was not without its challenges. Balancing the demands of a new business with family responsibilities was difficult. I spent many late nights and still do- planning designs, sourcing materials, and managing orders, all while ensuring my children felt my unwavering support and love.
Nevertheless, my resilience continues to prevail. My distinctive style, creativity, and personal touch continues to set me apart in the industry. My attention to detail and exceptional customer service attracted a growing clientele who valued the unique touches I brought to each event. With the Lord’s guidance, my business continues to flourish and I am forever grateful.
Throughout this journey, I have remained a devoted mother and wife, skillfully integrating my professional success with family life. Transitioning from a dedicated teacher to a successful business owner involved hard work, steadfast love, and the courage to pursue my dreams. My story stands as a testament to the power of resilience and the joy found at the intersection of passion and family. I hope my legacy will be defined not only by the vibrant balloon displays I created but also by the inspiration I provided to others—demonstrating that with dedication and heart, it is possible to turn dreams into reality while shining brightly through every challenge.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Effectively growing a clientele requires a strategic approach tailored to your business and target market. Start by developing a strong brand identity that clearly defines what your business represents and ultimately attracts your ideal clients. Utilize social media and a professional website to showcase your work and engage with potential customers. Continuously enhance your skills by attending relevant classes and workshops, which also offers valuable opportunities to network with other professionals in your field. Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients is crucial—request testimonials and feedback to ensure excellent customer service. This constructive feedback allows you to refine your services and foster loyalty, leading to a growing and dedicated clientele.
