Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christina Lockett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christina, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
My mother Beatrice Lockett is my hero. I have always looked up to her and admired her. After the death of my brother and father who died four days apart, I saw my mother in a new light. I know how I felt but I can never imagine how she felt to lose her firstborn child and days later lose her husband of 56 years. In this last year my mother has taught me how to persevere. My mother’s strength seems supernatural. I have faced many trials and tribulations in my life’s journey. Mother Beatrice taught me to stay positive, keep living life, and above all hold on to God’s unchanging hand. She is my hero because she is a model example of a virtuous woman.
Christina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My first profession was cosmetology. For a period of 7 years I lived in Louisiana. I lived in a rural area during that time period so naturally I did not earn the same amount of money as I did in the city of Houston. To supplement my income I started substitute teaching. Substitute teaching led to a permanent position as a teacher’s aide. Life happened and I went through a major divorce. I made a bold decision to enter college full-time and become a school teacher. It was a wonderful yet challenging experience to be a single mother, work full-time, and attend college full-time. Through God’s grace and the help of close family and friends I accomplished my goals. Meanwhile I was still ministering and sharing the Gospel. I knew within myself that everything I experienced was to inspire others. In order to reach more people I wrote my first book. While promoting my book I was introduced to radio. That is when I started my own radio broadcast. I wrote four more inspirational books, started my e-magazine, and I recently started acting in Gospel Stage plays. My sons are grown now so I am able to spread a message of hope as an administrator in the private school setting. I am also able to spread a message of hope through ministry. In this hour it is important that we use all our gifts and talents. My plate is very full but it is my daily prayer that it is productive. Making a difference in someone’s life on a daily basis is what I am most proud of.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When managing a team its important to lead by example. The golden rule helps me lead my volunteer team for my media ministry. The Golden rule says, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. My parents taught me this as a child. I was a teenager when I read it in the bible. I encourage my team, I ask them about their individual goals and desires, and most of all I show gratitude. It is important to tell your team thank you. Let them know they did a spectacular job.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The key to building an audience on Social Media is transparency and consistency. I remember when I started using the hashtag #amessageofhope after all my inspirational social media posts. We had a family gathering and one of my relatives jokingly called me Ms. Message of Hope. I smiled for ear to ear because in that moment I knew I was making a positive impact. My advice is to share relevant posts to your brand but take out time to respond and reply to your audience. When they see you interacting with them they will follow, support, and share your brand.
