We recently connected with Christina Karin and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
Building your team is one of the most important parts of growing your business. I could never do my job without the amazing people around me. Most of our full time employees started out as interns and learned the brand over time. It is so important to create a space where everyone is heard and where everyone feels confident in sharing their opinions and ideas. I love hearing everyone’s unique perspective and I think it’s vital to our growth. Part of my mission is to empower every single person working with us – much like our mission for the brand and clothes we design. We thrive in a collaborative environment where everyone’s voice is important and the goal is to build a brand, grow and have a good time doing it together.
Christina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From Wall Street to Fashion Week, Christina Karin Monley’s passion stems from empowering women to leave their comfort zones and dress for the life they dream of. Having left a
successful career in financial markets, Christina reimagined a brand in touch with the modern
woman’s real life. Seeking greater artistic appreciation and creativity, she enrolled in Chicago’s
esteemed School of the Art Institute and later launched her eponymous line. The brand has
become known for its global aesthetic that is both effortless and memorable, and stems from
Christina’s extensive cultural roots and her background as a daughter of immigrants.
“To me, Christina Karin embodies a global forward-thinking approach to fashion that is
approachable. The style is sophisticated yet effortless. Never over-done. There is an optimistic
and empowering viewpoint in each piece that fuses softness and strength to boldly tell the
story of a woman creating her own reality and defying all odds.”
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think my personal highlight for the brand so far is our staying power. Through so many obstacles including the pandemic, shifting social and economic behavior, we are still here building and growing more than ever before – we are passionately designing for women everywhere, and to me that is an enormous testament to our vision, and product, and devoted customer base.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
In this business, I don’t believe it’s really ever about just one thing. It’s all the small things you do every day that add up to so much whether with clientele or life in general. We are currently building out our ecomm site and digital presence and that has been really powerful, in conjunction with opening more stores in Brooklyn next and internationally. We are really working hard to reach our woman in all the places she is. I think reputation is also a major factor in growing today. I think personal relationships and word of mouth is one of the most powerful tools that are often overlooked by business owners. It seems small but over time all of these individuals really add up, and the collective voice truly makes a difference in a strong meaningful relationship.
