We were lucky to catch up with Christina Dee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
The best boss I ever had was me fr. I remember being in Target with my family when I was really young, maybe 7 or 8. Someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I thought back to all the stories I’d heard my parents say about their bosses and the challenges that come with needing to answer to someone, and I said “I’m going to be the boss’ boss’ boss! Whoever the top boss is, that’s what I’m going to be.” While I don’t have employees (aside from my perfect pug, Winston Theodore), I am definitely not made to answer to somebody. The oldest daughter syndrome runs deep, and having my own private practice I am able to make a lot of my own policies and accommodations for myself. Working for me is the best.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I chose the field of psychology because I saw a need for more relatable mental healthcare workers, and because this job is so easy for me. I absolutely love the work that I do. I love being able to have meaningful conversations with people every day as they learn how to love themselves better. This work is perfectly aligned with who I am as a person, and I am so grateful to have the ability to move through my career with ease. I do not take that for granted. I also work as a psychic and a reiki healer. I work closely with someone to ensure all the work and healing I provide is aligned with the board of psychology. I also offer clinical hypnosis, which is super fun. I love that I have the ability to play in my job. I am my own boss, and that is definitely the way it needs to be for me. What sets me apart from other practitioners is how authentic and integrative I am in my approach to all the healing modalities I offer. I bring my whole personality, and because of that, there is so much greater opportunity to foster real therapeutic connections with my clients. I work with people who have complex trauma, and I believe taking a relational and IFS approach is a game changer. Doing the work with me is fun, but also very challenging. I do not hold back on calling people out when they are becoming the problem in their own lives, and I have to believe that the clients that sick with me respect me for that.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
One hundred percent yes. I would choose this career over and over again. I love being a therapist, and I like that this is a profession society regards as real (for the most part). The more that I’m in the field, the more I’ve learned 1) a masters degree is more than enough if all you want to provide is talk therapy 2) I could have been working as a life coach all throughout my higher education and been making a whole lot more 3) NOT EVERYONE WHO IS A THERAPIST IS GOOD. I have worked with so many hand holders, as a client and as a professional. That is not my approach to healing at all. I am here to hold you accountable and encourage you to do the real healing and integrative work! You don’t get there by just being told that everything is okay 100% of the time.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I truly believe that being authentic and being able to find my voice online has helped so much with marketing. Not just on tiktok and instagram, but also on psychology today. Psychology today is like an online phone book for finding a therapist. The more I was able to come into myself, trust my approach as a clinician, and trust my intuition in general, the more people were able to find me. The more authentic I have been in my online presence, the more clients I have gotten, the safer
I feel in my body, and the better my therapeutic connections are! It’s so important to have a therapist that you feel like you can be fully yourself with. I hope that I am able to lay the ground work for that by creating an authentic space before clients even walk through the door.
