Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christie Molloy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Before starting Thirsty Cowboy I had been making homemade skincare products with my mom for years. I’ve always had extremely sensitive skin and eczema which would flare up whenever I’d use products from the store. In 2022 I needed to raise $3000 for charity in order to run the New York City marathon. Unsure of how I could quickly raise the money I thought about products that I could make and sell – and that’s when skincare came to mind. I started to design branding for a homemade Vitamin-C serum recipe that I was using at home. I posted photos of it on Instagram and ended up selling 45 units in 8 weeks. Months later I had text messages from people saying they had run out and wondering if I had more. That’s when the Thirsty Cowboy brand began.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always been obsessed with clean food and skincare brands, because I respect companies that put in the time to make their products clean for their customers. This inspired me to make my own range of even cleaner skincare products. The Thirsty Cowboy range includes: natural vitamin-c serum, oil-free hydrating serum, natural retinol renewal serum, barrier cream with 2% colloidal oatmeal, after-sun bronzing gel, collagen stimulating gel and lip butters. What sets us apart is that all ingredients in our products are designed to heal your skin and nothing more, and all products are designed to treat dry, sensitive and inflamed skin first, and other conditions second. This way our products help skin longevity and won’t put you steps back in your skin journey. Also most of our ingredients are sourced from different deserts around the world.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I’ve tried to minimize the amount of capital that I needed to start Thirsty Cowboy by making small batches of the products myself and testing them out with customers until finding the right match. I think it can be a waste of money to spend 1000s of dollars on a product that you’re not even sure customers will like – especially in the initial stages!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Most of my new clients have come from word of mouth. Typically a customer or someone who I gifted the product to has been impressed with their skin results and how gentle the products are – and usually how great they smell!
