We were lucky to catch up with Christie Hensler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christie, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Everyone I talk to and everywhere I go, I see untapped potential. I see people not living up to their potential in their careers, relationships and health. They settle for status quo because they can’t seem to figure out what’s holding them back so they just keep going through the motions. I see businesses not reaching their potential and struggling. It’s my passion to help people see the untapped potential they have sitting and sometimes hiding inside of them. Once I get them to see what’s holding them back, then I give them the tools to go reach their potential.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
The future was bright. I was 19, married, and had big plans and lots of dreams! Then in 7 short years I was divorced, fought infertility, lost thousands of dollars in a bad house deal, relocated cities/jobs/churches AND my entire life twice in toxic relationships, and at the beginning stages of anxiety and panic attacks plaguing my life. At 26 years old, I once again started to rebuild my life and then financial troubles, a miscarriage and a 7-year mental and physical health battle for my life punched me in the face. After that, my family and I sold everything, bought an RV and started a life-on-the-road adventure which was supposed to last 6 months, but turned into years.
In the midst of it all, there have been some things that have kept me grounded, given me the resilience and grit to continue to get back up every time I was knocked down, and have an unshakeable joy that encompasses me throughout every valley I’ve crawled through and every mountain I’ve climbed.
As I’m invited into people’s lives and stories every day of my life, I see a common thread, and that’s that everyone, everywhere is going through something. Life is filled with mountains, valleys, potholes, hurdles, detours, and unexpected road closings.
Almost 20 years ago I hired my very first life coach and several coaches since then for different seasons of my life. The mindsets and tools I have learned along the way have empowered me to be present in the moment, navigate obstacles with confidence, and find joy in my journey while helping others do the same.
Through 1:1 and group coaching, online courses, speaking engagements and my latest book release, Life Hacks for Hard Times, I equip and empower others to stop struggling through life and start winning at life by truly getting to the core issues that hold them back from having thriving relationships, living their purpose and finding fulfillment in life.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
3 things:
1- Getting people results. Hands down, people pay for results. If I don’t get my customers results, they have no reason to continue to use or recommend me. I do this by truly getting to the issues that are holding them back AND giving them the tools to fix their problems.
2- Being consistent and REAL. My clients and followers know that with me, what you see is what you get. They aren’t getting one version of Christie on social media and one version in real life. I am consistent to who I am no matter who I’m with or what I’m doing – so my clients TRUST me and I don’t take that trust lightly.
3- I continue to invest in and grow myself. I’m not asking my clients to do something (hire a coach, join a personal growth online course, etc.) that I’m not doing for myself. I believe I’m a great coach because I have great coaches for myself so I’m “practicing what I’m preaching” so to speak.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A couple years back I made the mistake of hiring a very high-end business coach who didn’t share my values of integrity and valuing people, but I didn’t realize it at the time. I went through the process, got taken advantage of and didn’t speak up for myself until it was too late. My coach at the time, who was a mindset coach, was able to help me see how I gave my power away and helped me put boundaries into place in my life and business to not let that happen again. At the time this happened, it sure did feel like things were happening TO me, but after working through my mindsets on it and taking the lessons from it, I was able to realize that experience happened FOR me. Even though it pained me to lose the money I lost on that deal, I realized that learning that lesson now would potentially save me in my business in the future when much more was at stake.
The mindset of “things happening FOR me instead of TO me” has been one that has helped me grow through so much and not fall prey to the victim mentality. I am passionate about this mindset and I have a chapter dedicated to it in my latest book release, Life Hacks for Hard Times.
