Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christie Edman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Christie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
It feels great to be a business owner. You don’t have anyone discouraging your creativity and autonomy . With my regular job, I have to find time to use my creative juices and do planning ( usually only on my lunch break) but it is very limited time, which feels almost like it is pausing me from creating/ developing something great.
Christie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello all! I’m Christie Edman, owner of Pinky’s Jewelry Bar. A little about myself: I started my business back in 2022, I absolutely love using my creative skills all the time, I am a food lover, and love to travel. Also, I am a firm believer on the importance of discipline/consistency, overall becoming a better person for yourself. I started my business back in Covid times, when I honestly just felt stuck. I just graduated high school and had all my entrepreneurial spirits going, then it all took a brief pause when we were in covid times. I was spending most of my time with my family that I live with, and playing dress up, hoping to wear that outfit outside one day LOL!But just in those moments, my life had to change, because although I did enjoy those times, I believed that my time could be in better use. So then came my idea for my business! The idea behind Pinky’s Jewelry Bar was to honor my late mother, who passed away when I was in my early teens. As we all know, losing a loved one is hard, but over the years, it felt like I just had to create something to honor and remember my mother by, and the absolutely loved jewelry. After she passed away, and even to this day, I still find time to look through her saved jewelry and just admire the pieces she left. With Pinky’s Jewelry Bar, the mission is to express yourself daily, so there is never a dull moment. All that while being set at affordable prices!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Towards the end of 2022 up to this day, I have began to love reading/ listening to Self improvement books. There is always room to improve yourself in any aspect. A book that I recently finished was “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. I honestly think this has set in stone that great things need habits that are compounded. Basically saying that your habits should align with the goals you want to accomplish. So say like for my business, posting once/twice a day consistently will keep me on track with my goal of creating brand awareness or traffic to my page, hopefully getting more people aware of my brand. It really is a great book because it’s now always in the back of my head whenever I do anything, really thinking about the future and the life I want for myself. Another book I would say that impacted my thinking was “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. Overall, the book talks about how you should never let fear be the greatest factor that allows you from doing things you really want to do. So may people, as well as myself, are hindered and discouraged because of the fear of something. The only thing that truly limits yourself is your brain. I always remind myself that because I also find myself struggling with doing the things I want to do because of fear
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I feel like the biggest pivot of my life is right now. Beginning my early stages of adulthood, I kind of feels like I was slightly ready for it but as I go, it’s teaching me a lot. Currently, I am working a full time job, studying graphic design, as well as running my jewelry business- and personal activities day to day. I have to balance my time for the things I want to do within the day, make sure my effort is well put. Some days it’s really exhausting, but I pretty much talk myself out of it, because if I’m not doing so and so, it could be a much different experience
