We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christianna Bettis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christianna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
On social media, I manage my own for now.
Christianna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Christianna and I am the proud owner of Christianna Bettis Photography LLC. I am married to the love of my life and have two crazy beautiful kids. When I am not managing my household and kids, I am photographing! From sweet and in love couples to maternity and then newborns! oh! and don’t forget the cutest milestone sessions of the babies and kids. I have won awards for my photographs and been published in local magazines and books. I’ve always loved photography and being creative. One thing I love about photography, is the fact that you can create memories and then capture those memories being made. And before you know it, you have these beautiful photos to look back on and pass on to your kids and grandkids and so on and so forth. To me photography isn’t just me taking photos of my clients, it’s about me capturing my clients for who they are now and creating beautiful and priceless memories to remember forever.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn in my business, was changing my mindset. I had a pretty bad mindset about my work, and to be honest I still struggle with it from time to time. This mindset of….”Is my work really worth it?” And I believe it’s also known as the imposter syndrome. It’s crazy how a lot of people go through that in their work. I have to remind myself, “hey! I can do this! My work is awesome! I have won awards, I have been in magazines and still work with local magazines. Why aren’t I good enough?!” Not trying to sound cocky, just sometimes we need to lift ourselves up, especially in a pretty competitive world.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is the relationships with my clients that I have the pleasure of making. Through the process, from booking and planning a session, or wedding. You get to know the client and I love that, because they are no longer just clients, they become friends and then we all enjoy the session and experience better.
