We recently connected with Christianah Isedowo and have shared our conversation below.
Christianah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is motivating me to start my business because it is a kind act that keeps on giving.
I was in high school when I took interest in makeup. I enjoyed watching makeup videos and was following lots of makeup artists on Instagram and youtube. The only makeup product I probably had at this time was a lipgloss. In my senior year, my dad bought me my first foundation which was from Coverfx and one makeup brush. As I progressed to university, my interest in makeup deepened, leading me to invest in diverse products like eyeshadow palettes and eyeliners, mostly from drugstores. Whenever there were events at school, I willingly offered to do makeup for my friends.
The turning point occurred when a friend astutely pointed out, “Christianah, did you know you could provide makeup services to others and charge for it?” Despite my avid consumption of makeup artist content on Instagram and YouTube, the idea of being one myself hadn’t crossed my mind. Doubts about my proficiency in charging for such services lingered. However, this friend not only persuaded me to commence this journey but also became one of the initial clients to pay for my services.
This kind act not only gave rise to Tianah Beauté but also enabled me to establish a business that not only enhances people’s beauty on special occasions but brings me genuine happiness. The satisfaction derived from what I do is immeasurable, and the financial aspect is an added bonus.

Christianah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a professional make up artist based in Toronto, Canada. I started my beauty business, Tianah Beauté, over 8 years ago. My journey began with self-learning through YouTube videos and practicing on friends, and I later took private courses with makeup artists whose work I admire to refine my skills. While specializing in bridal makeup, I also extend my services to film and television, photo shoots, and various special events. I am committed to giving every client a timeless and unique makeup look and making sure they leave my chair feeling flawless.
What distinguishes my artistry and consistently earns praise from clients is the ability to enhance their beauty while preserving their natural appearance. I reject the notion that makeup is a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, I focus on creating looks that naturally elevate and highlight each client’s best features, and I promise them a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Looking ahead to 2024, I have ambitious plans to expand the business by introducing more services and launching products that I am confident our clients will adore. We are also rebranding and I can’t wait to share with my current and future clients.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best sources of new clients for me has been word of mouth and Instagram. Most of my clients come from referrals. I strive to create an enjoyable experience for my clients and I am consistent with my artistry. My clients that value natural soft glam refer me to their friends and families that are also looking for the same type of glam, so I mostly get clients that are aligned with my type of artistry.
I am definitely not the most active person on social media but each time I post new content, I would get on average 3-4 inquiries. I post content similar to the type of looks I love creating. I would advice anyone looking to gain clients in the beauty industry, POST THAT CONTENT. Your next client is watching.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn is that no one would book me if I increase my prices. I was having a conversation with one of my mentors and she asked how much I was charging for my services, She was close to having a heart attack when I told her. She made me realize that my skillset and my prices were not matching at all. She encouraged me to increase my prices and I struggled for days to bring myself to change my prices on my website. I eventually did it. The next 6-7 clients I booked after the price increase never questioned my pricing. Although once in a while, I would have one or two clients who would tell me my prices are too high, but most of them pay and still tip me. I say this to encourage every artist out there; CHARGE YOUR WORTH. The clients who appreciate and value the service you offer would still book you.
