We were lucky to catch up with Christiana Nyarko recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christiana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Naming a creative business is definitely one of the hardest parts of the process, but for me, it came naturally. The name “Christiana Captures” is a reflection of what I do at the core of my work—capturing moments, emotions, and stories through various forms of art. When I started six years ago, I was focusing solely on digital photography. But my time in art school broadened my creative vision, pushing me to experiment with mixed media, film photography, embroidery, collage, and even painting.
I strive to capture the essence of my subjects, whether that’s through a camera lens, a needle, or a brushstroke. For me, it’s all about creating art that feels authentic and raw, while blending different mediums to convey deeper layers of meaning. So, while the business name started with photography, it has evolved to represent my whole creative journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a freelance multidisciplinary artist and photographer. My journey into this creative world began in 2018 while living in New York City. Surrounded by so many talented creatives, I picked up a camera and quickly fell in love with photography. I went on to study at the University of Kentucky’s College of Fine Arts where I honed my craft, and today while living in Los Angeles I specialize in portrait photography. However, I also take on headshot and event photography, offering a variety of services to meet different client needs.
In addition to photography, I create mixed media commissions where clients can send me a photograph, and I’ll transfer the photo onto a canvas before embroidering over it to turn the image into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. I love blending traditional techniques with modern photography to create something truly unique.
What sets me apart is the vibrance in my work and my ability to fuse different artistic disciplines to tell a story or capture the essence of a moment. I’m proud of how my work continues to evolve, and the connections I’ve built with clients who trust me to transform their vision into art. For potential clients and followers, I want them to know that my goal is to create work that fulfills their needs while making meaningful art that resonates on a deeper level.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing the final result of my work come to life. Whether it’s a photography project or a mixed media piece, it is incredibly fulfilling to deliver a finished product that resonates with my client.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Earlier in my creative journey, I only used Adobe Lightroom for photo editing, which was great for basic adjustments. But discovering Photoshop really changed the game for me. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities for retouching and fine-tuning my work, which definitely took my photography to the next level.
