We were lucky to catch up with Christian Zuniga recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The Carmen’s Tex Mex concept has a rich history associated with it. Carmen is the name of my mother. She is solely responsible for teaching me the exciting world of culinary excellence. Coming from a Mexican background, she had that touch of excellence. My mother was so inspirational and had such an influence on me, that naming this concept after her was no brainer.
Christian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My story is quite simple…..humble beginnings. Growing up with a terrific mother who showed me the true meaning of work ethic and strong passion for whatever it is you do on a daily basis. I took that knowledge and applied it to my only interest, which is cooking. First job as a dishwasher, I quickly learned the concept of “Earn what you desire”. I quickly moved up the ranks to line cook, to sous chef, to Executive Chef, to assistant manager then General manager across very well known DFW restaurants. I paired my knowledge and experience with culinary school, then took my knowledge to next level. I started Carmen’s Tex Mex in 2022 with the support of my family. Carmen’s Tex Mex is located in Kennedale, Texas and we specialize in Tex Mex food made with the freshest ingredients and executed with the highest standards and expertise. We also specialize in catering of all different styles to accommodate any event.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Absolutely! I had the pleasure of reading an amazing book called “The Lighthouse Effect”. The book depicts a gentleman whom overcame a difficult and challenging past to achieve success professionally and personally. Inspiring people to become their own lighthouse and impact those around you. No matter what mindset you have, you can learn the importance of perception in life, which in turn, you can utilize to maximize your company, inspire staff, and impress your guests. I am the biggest believer in positive thinking and flipping tough situations into training and learning opportunities.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I stop and think of my journey and how my professional experiences have created my resilience, I have many stories to tell. I believe resilience is created through tough experiences, whether they may be professional or personal. Resilience is agreeing to arrive early for your shift because someone called out. Resilience is pushing through your work shifts even if you’re exhausted. Resilience is working on improving your skills to make you better at your profession. Resilience is showing up to your business and give it 100% every day-all day. Resilience is having 2 jobs and attending school at the same time. These are the resilient creating experiences that will make you a better professional and will always differentiate you and give you an edge over any competitor.
