We were lucky to catch up with Christian Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christian, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
Making connections is very important in my field and over time I became more comfortable reaching out to others for advice, what I can improve on, and getting to know their story.

Christian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Christian Wilson from Charlotte, North Carolina. I am a freelance cameraman, studio and graphics operator at World Racing Group’s DIRTVision, and a social media manager. As a kid, I always had an interest in broadcasting watching sports on TV with my grandparents. I went to the Carolina School of Broadcasting for college where I quickly grew my skills and gained more experience behind the scenes. During my final year of college, I was contacted by Tim Donelli, who is a play-by-play announcer as well as a journalist. He offered by an internship position as a camera operator for the Charlotte Rush hockey team and I excelled. Tim has been a great mentor to me and has helped me in my walk with Christ. Trusting in God’s plan for me has been very crucial and He’s taken away my worries and doubts. I’ve not only filmed motorsports, but also hockey, soccer, and weddings. Running multiple social media accounts also helped in growing my brand and learning how to interest viewers,

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I didn’t start social media till college, but I have learned so much from creating content the last 5 years. Personally, I don’t care about how many followers I have. I create content for fun and do the best I can to influence others, I currently run 5 accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Shorts and Reels has been a game-changer for so many people looking to grow their business. I highly recommend putting out multiple a week.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
A lot of people don’t realize how much work goes into broadcasting and creating content. There will be times where you may spend days working on a project in which there may be no results. There will be times where you struggle, have to deal with haters, and feel like you aren’t doing enough. But always keep your head up, look at the positives, and trust in the Lord, There’s many people we come across every day that we don’t know what they’ve been through and challenges they’ve overcome. Treat others how you’d like to be treated.
