We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christian Teodecki a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I wouldn’t use the term “happier” because that would give the implication that there is a comparison to someone who is not a creative… We are all human beings and by-design, humans are creative beings. In this world, everyone shows their own uniqueness and creativity in their own way. People choose to show their creativity in the clothes they wear, the cars they drive, the pictures they take, etc. I choose to write music that expresses myself and tell a story the same way an artist would paint a mural to tell a story.
I do not wonder what life would be like if I had a regular job, because I do have a regular job. I am a design consultant within the home remodeling industry. I do however wonder what life would be like if I was able to pay my bills and earn my living by doing what I love most, music.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the lead vocalist of the band [REDACTED] out of Akron Ohio. I formed the band in 2023 shortly after my departure from a previous band called Half Past Late. I played music with my former band for 2 years before the great divide. As a band, we have released two projects all together. The first being Lab Tapes which is an EP produced by us in our basement, more or less just a demo tape. We later went on to do a full studio album with the Rialto Recording Studio and released our first full record, [REDACTED]. I am most proud of John Doe, our last track on the album. I didnt write the lyrics (except the bridge) or any of the guitars, so its credit that I wish I could take, but its my favorite piece of music I had a hand in creating. I have never thought for a second that the music I make with my friends would be what it has come to today
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I love NFT’s. I have been trying to get as many of them as I can. I may or may not be in production to get my own NFT made of me.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The payoff of watching the audience enjoy my art. Seeing a crowd full of people hitting each other with my music playing is the best form of reward I could ask for. Its a feeling like no other, being on stage and giving it everything you got and having everyone just get down with you. After stepping off stage, it feels as if I have done a hardcore drug or something. I would never want to give up that feeling, sharing my art with the world is my favorite part of this little life we live.
