We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christian Smolanovich a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christian, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Like all great American stories, it started with tequila and Mexican food. Just like anyone who experiences the laughs of some jokes at the table with friends, we want to make marketing fun again. Since mainstream marketing has become so safe and boring, we needed a name that would attract the right type of clients…those that want to be above average. We might not be the biggest marketing company, but we work hard. And the name 6 Inch Media was born.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our speciality is using organic video content to refine your target audience, iterating across social media platforms for best outcomes, and using the data to focus ad spend on getting the best results. We’re constantly testing and learning to help our clients achieve their goals, and we have the proof to back it up!
Marketing and entertainment shouldn’t be mutually exclusive, content should engage the viewer by its very nature. All content promotes something or someone, but the best marketing tells a story that you can relate to, laugh at, or identify with.
We’ve been really fortunate and proud to help other small businesses, artists, and non profits in the Nashville area grow, building up the whole community. It’s a win for the client and a win for us to see them succeed and help us refine our process with them!

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Christian was Director of Marketing for a reverse logistics and ecommerce company with over a decade of experience in digital marketing and content creation. Adam has worked in the music industry across various roles from artist relations and management to show production for the past 15 years. Alex and Adam were longtime band members, with many years experience creating their own content and promoting their own music. Alex brings experience in building businesses, operations, and tech from 15 years in corporations and startups. Dan is truly a jack of all trades. From data analysis to building furniture from scratch to operating heavy machinery. Anything that you would assume a man with a beard can do, Dan can do, end quote.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
With Christian’s background, we thought product-based marketing would be our best fit. We didn’t expect to grow as much as we have, leading us to new industries and markets! Through word of mouth and referrals, new clients desired an all-in-one marketing company that could handle content creation, editing, social media management, ads, cross-linking, websites, and more! Why deal with 6 companies when you can deal with 6 Inch?
